@SafeDavid3 @_CatintheHat David, I'd love to talk to you about my investigations into the body responsible for IPC in Scotland. Unbelievable stuff - or it should be, but unfortunately it's very believable.

Any one of us could find ourselves (or loved ones) sick/ disabled/ elderly or facing a difficult death. So every one of us should unite to ensure as a priority that support throughout life, from cradle to grave, is in place for all when needed.

Once in place, it could become ever more coercive, as support is increasingly removed from groups any future govt doesn't value, rendering lives ever more impossible, driving them to 'choose' death. Good intentions today can open the door to bad ones tomorrow.

This debate was a shining example of the Scottish Parliament at its best. Thank you to all MSPs, however you voted, for listening to constituents who took different views, researching, reflecting & wrestling with what to do for the best, for Scotland. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

No jubilation or victory rhetoric, just quiet relief as the Assisted Dying Bill is rejected by Parliament. We could not afford to pass a Bill that the most vulnerable told us they feared would open the door to coercion - regardless of how subtle it may be - to end their lives.

Tonight the Scottish Parliament voted NO to legalising assisted suicide in Scotland by 69 votes to 57 Thank you to the MSP's who listened to the evidence & experiences of all those with concerns about this Bill Hopefully Westminster will follow the Scottish Parliament's example
Not Dead Yet UK@TheNotDeadYetUK

In the end more MSPs understood that the risks were too great. For now. As this BBC headline makes clear, the battle is far from over. We must continue to make the case that disabled people's voices and concerns must be central to this debate. #post" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">bbc.co.uk/news/live/cx2g…

@sjksanders I agree with what you say on the absolute inability to comprehend life outside their limited experience but am no longer shocked by anything politicians do.

@SalWitcher I keep thinking I can’t be more shocked and then… they shock me some more. It’s the absolute inability to comprehend life outside of their limited experience.

I'd add that the fact sick/ disabled people don't have choice over how they live their lives or access to health (inc mental health, palliative care) services is a political choice. So is instead giving them choice to die. Can people not see the danger of where this could lead?
Hannah Brown@HannahMargBrown

Pam Duncan-Glancy tells @heraldscotland she feels 'sick' ahead of the assisted dying bill as she shares her concerns over safeguards for disabled people and urges MSPs to vote against the proposals. Read the latest on our live blog: heraldscotland.com/news/25941972.…

Tonight, MSPs will be asked to make a very important decision. I will be voting against the Assisted Dying Bill as vulnerable people could be coerced into taking their lives, while the scope of the bill could be expanded. I hope MSPs defeat it. news.stv.tv/politics/msps-…

GDA recognises that many people hold differing views on the principle of #AssistedDying. Regardless of people’s views on the principle of Assisted Dying, it is widely accepted by multiple professional bodies that this Bill is unsafe. This is why we’re urging MSP’s to VOTE NO

@ShonaRobisonMSP @ShonaRobison I know this is a tough issue but there are no safeguards possible that can't be got round & covered up, and easily removed once the principle of the State assisting people to kill themselves is in law. There is no training possible that can guarantee detection of coercion. Fact.

MSPs vote today on the assisted dying Bill. Many will wrestle with what to do. The right thing to do is vote against because no training can ensure coercion is detected & no 'safeguards' can't be got round & later removed. This Bill is dangerous. I'm scared by where it will lead.

I have the honour to work with people with Long Covid and their organisations, like Long Covid Scotland and Long Covid Kids Scotland. They have my utmost admiration. Please support them if you can.
Inclusive New Normal@InclusiveNew

Today 15/3 is International #LongCovidAwarenessDay & landmarks will be lit up in teal (campaign colour). Awareness is much needed - that people still get it, most are working age, had no health issues, there's no cure & few services - & that it's an indoor air quality issue.
