Just a mom and a grandma. That’s enough for me.

@TzviGoldstein @avygal I’m not so sure. Most girls I know talk to their mother’s nearly every day. Not that it’s a bad thing. But most boys I know don’t need the daily talks with their moms. Maybe it’s just who we know that forms our opinions.

@SallyJGM @avygal I think girls are naturally better at cutting the cord with their mother than sons are. It's not from the mother's side, it's from the children's side.

I think the discourse we really need to have on mom twitter is why so many moms of boys become enmeshed with their sons to the point of sabotaging their son’s marriage.

@avygal @katerynparr I know this happens. My only point in all of this is that it’s not just the son’s mothers who do this. I see it as much with the daughter’s mother. Maybe sons just don’t put it out there about their MIL’s the way daughters do. They don’t tend to share those things so 🤷‍♀️

@avygal No, actually, I have great relationships with my DIL’s. Probably closer than most. Heck one even asked me to be in the delivery room lol. It just seems that the discussion is mainly against the son’s mothers. When the daughter’s mother can be just as bad. I’ve seen it both ways

I wonder…how many of the women agreeing with this call their own mother about every little problem they have? How many take mom’s advice over what their husband’s think? Because that happens a lot. Your mom doesn’t need to know everything about your marriage, either.

@korinreid I must’ve missed the part about MIL’s wanting or expecting to be in the delivery room. I personally don’t know any who would think that and I doubt many do.

I think the MIL wanting to be in the delivery room discourse is interesting, b/c although my own mother was in the room for two of my children, I don't think she would have asked to be in there, because she has boundaries. I asked her to be there.

@katerynparr @avygal Same here. Mine is gone now and I miss her dearly. I understand not everyone has this but to project their bad relationship on all MIL’s is childish.

@Lanceisme1126 @avygal No, I don’t think they do want to discuss that. It probably happens as much or more with the daughter’s mom.

@avygal wow, shall we also discuss the ladies mom as well? they get so involved with their daughters lives that it causes terrible discourse in the marriage.

@TzviGoldstein @avygal Yes. But this includes the daughter’s mother also. Some want to only apply this to the son’s mother.

@Brit_Stone @avygal They probably will be that kind of MIL. If they have sons I hope they remember all this. I tend to think they won’t be so agreeable to having to wait to see their grandchild. And will let it be known.

@avygal My friends ex has a mother like this. But I also think the women saying the baby is THEIRS and not anyone else’s immediately after birth and they need to be holding them at all times and control who’s sees them etc, are on the road to becoming that exact kind of MIL too 🤷‍♀️

@sheffiela01 @avygal Well they are saying the man has no say so in who or when others see his baby. So maybe he does what wife wants and says nothing. It’s what he’s being told, after all. It seems sometimes the man is darned if he does and darned if he doesn’t

@avygal I want to know why essentially zero of this convo holds the men accountable for anything. It’s always the women going to battle while the other women cheer (and jeer) it on.

@avygal @katerynparr No they aren’t 🤦‍♀️ No one expects that or has suggested that. And this is coming from a MIL who actually was in the birthing room lol. I would’ve never even considered it but my DIL asked me to be there

@grl_fit @Nazumejud Sure. Wives can be wrong sometimes though. In this instance, it seems that she was.

@Nazumejud Yes. This s biblical. “A man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife” When you marry your wife is above everything. Even your children

AM I WRONG FOR CHOOSING MY MOTHER OVER MY WIFE? My wife and I have a son who is about to turn five. For years, my parents, mostly my mother, have provided full time childcare at no cost. She follows every rule we set, no screens, no sweets, routines exactly as asked, and our son adores her. We genuinely could not afford daycare, and even if we could, it would not compare. Recently, we learned my parents have been quietly paying my older brother’s rent. He has a long history of poor choices, and my wife made a sharp comment about favoritism and how the problem child always gets rewarded. My mother snapped back hard, saying she spends forty hours a week caring for our child and can do whatever she wants with her money, even waste it entirely. The language was intense and shocked everyone. My wife demanded an apology. My mother apologized for the wording but doubled down on the message, saying her finances are not up for debate…….. 👇
