Everyone bemoans how beautiful this is and that we can't have nice things anymore. But I'm here to tell you otherwise, with a twist. First off, it was beast. 12x4x11 roughly and 11 pounds. Reviewers and owners frequently called it a "monster" or "ridiculous." A big reason was the internal power supply (no external brick like the 360) plus the Blu-ray drive and substantial cooling hardware. Second, it was a fingerprint magnet and scratch-prone. Sony marketed the high-gloss "piano black" finish as premium, but it picked up fingerprints, dust, and smudges instantly, and the curved top scratched easily. Many described it as greasy-looking or cheap-feeling despite the weighty build. Dirt collected in the various seams, vents, and the flimsy front flap covering the rarely used memory card slots. Third, it was an awkward shape and form factor that didn't fit into an AV stack. But here's the thing - people complained because the thing acted like it wanted to be the showpiece, the central point of focus of your entertainment center. It had not earned that. Yet. But it would. So the irony is that when it WAS new, we didn't know how good we had it yet. That came later.
