Interesting scoop. It's been clear that Cabinet ministers have had critical minerals on the mind for some time now - Collins started speaking of minerals in the EEZ early '25 - but that such an arrangement is in the works with the US is a step further than I'd anticipated.

New Zealand is in talks with the United States over a critical minerals framework, with the Herald understanding an announcement is being worked towards for the near-future. Concerns over a potential agreement were raised with the Waitangi Tribunal this week.
