One thing has become obvious during tonight's painted gun discussion. Most people who think they're camouflage experts only know what their DS/DI told them to make them believe their uniform would hide them in the woods. Their understanding begins and ends with breaking up an outline.

I've even painted guns before myself. The difference is, I've carried painted guns in combat and it's wears off pretty quick and just makes it look like trash after a couple weeks.
