Lebanon is grim because there can be no peaceful resolution when Western politicians do not even understand the situation at a most basic level. They still talk as if Israel is “responding” rather than invading, escalating, and displacing ppl after a year of ceasefire violations

Lebanon doesn't like or trust Israel, and it also doesn't like or trust Hezbollah. For the first time, Lebanon is now saying that they want Israel to weaken Hezbollah and they want their own army to come in after. They certainly don't want Israel to occupy Lebanon, and that's the bet they're making. At this point, Israel is a strange bedfellow and is reluctantly supported by Lebanon. The French-proposed peace agreement is gaining traction. The Lebanese government is positively inclined. The Israeli government is somewhat inclined but wants more physical security as part of the deal from Lebanon to ensure Hezbollah doesn't gain back control.
