While we appreciate Samsung's efforts to provide a screen reader, the decision to disable or effectively block the use of Google's official TalkBack application from the Google Play Store on Samsung devices is causing significant inequity and disadvantage for blind and visually impaired users. This situation borders on anti-competitive practice concerning essential accessibility features and must be rectified immediately. The Core Problem: Restricted Access to Google TalkBack The fundamental issue is that virtually all other Android manufacturers allow users to install and utilize Google TalkBack directly from the Play Store, providing the most up-to-date and standardized screen reading experience. * Forced Default: Samsung forces users to rely exclusively on its own version, which, despite being based on Google's TalkBack code, lacks crucial features and suffers from inconsistent updates. * Inconsistent Updates and Feature Gap: Samsung TalkBack updates are often tied to major One UI system updates, resulting in significant delays in receiving the latest accessibility enhancements, bug fixes, and critical features (like advanced image description capabilities) that Google frequently rolls out via the Play Store to other devices. Furthermore, older, yet still functional, Samsung phones often cease receiving screen reader updates entirely, denying blind users access to necessary improvements and patches. * Inaccessible Installation: While Google TalkBack can sometimes be installed from the Play Store, it is often not selectable or visible within the Accessibility Services menu on Samsung devices, rendering it practically useless. This deliberate restriction forces users into an inferior, less-supported experience. Call for Immediate Action and Resolution This practice is perceived by the blind community as a form of cheating and injustice (અન્યાય) against users who rely on these essential tools to operate their mobile devices. A screen reader is not a luxury; it is a necessity for independence. By controlling the screen reader and limiting access to the industry standard, Samsung is creating a two-tiered system that disadvantages its own customers. We demand that Samsung immediately implement a fix that allows users to: * Easily Disable Samsung TalkBack/Voice Assistant. * Seamlessly Install and Enable Google TalkBack from the Google Play Store as a selectable Accessibility Service, just like on other Android devices. This would ensure that blind users on Samsung devices receive the latest features, security updates, and a consistent, functional experience across the Android ecosystem. Non-Compliance Warning If Samsung fails to address this critical accessibility issue and restore the fundamental right of blind users to choose and use the industry-standard Google TalkBack on their purchased devices within a reasonable timeframe, we will have no choice but to launch a sustained public campaign under the banner of "Samsung is Cheating on Accessibility" (બ્લાઇન્ડ એક્સેસિબિલિટી સાથે ચીટીંગ). This campaign will strongly urge the entire blind and visually impaired community, accessibility advocates, and the broader public to refuse to purchase Samsung mobile devices until this fundamental and vital correction is made. We believe that consumers should not be penalized with inferior accessibility features merely for choosing a Samsung device. We expect a prompt and affirmative response outlining the steps and timeline Samsung will take to resolve this matter and ensure true accessibility equity.
