Whoever came up with the phrase cheap is expensive certainly never fueled at Astrol Petrol Station. 1. It is 100% Kenyan, founded in 2000 by the late Thayu Kamal Kabugi and is now run by the son, James Mwangi. 2. They not only own the land their stations are built on to cut costs but also manage their stations directly rather than franchising. 3. Their fuel contains a high 91 PON rating, which is higher than the premium fuels around, including V-Power. 4. They are not only 2 - 7 shillings cheaper but also never hoard fuel whenever there are shortages. We don’t appreciate such companies enough

Final fuel prices are determined by 3 factors; landed cost, taxes and dealer's markup. Our taxes are crazy. • Petrol landed cost per liter - Sh118 , taxes per liter - Sh74. • Diesel landed cost per liter - Sh167 , taxes per liter - Sh68. • Kerosene landed cost per liter -Sh172 , taxes per liter - Sh49 Exercise Duty, Road maintenance Levy, petroleum development Levy, Petroleum regulatory levy, Railway development levy, anti adulteration levy, merchants shipping levy , Import declaration fee and VAT. That is where the burden is coming from.

@DavidNdungu Yeap, pass the same stations on 15th morning you'll find them selling.

It looks like Shell have found a way of maximising profits through the sale of V-Power on the back of the perceived fuel shortage. I have been to two stations recently where they "have no Unleaded but only V-Power".
