Dan Jarvis booted out last night and replaced with Wes Streeting as defence secretary. He had only been in the role for a few weeks yet had met many of his counterparts having attended NATO summit and Ukraine defence contact group. Big blow for Jarvis, a well respected former paratrooper, and his team.

AI is likely the most significant technology in human history. Its impact will dwarf other things.
The best case for it is compelling beyond our dreams: a reindustrialised Britain, stronger national security, public services transformed for the better.
The risks, too, are real: it is right that the British public shares those worries, for jobs, for the pace of change.

So many of my peers in the media are showing a surprising anti-northern bias around Andy Burnham partly because unlike him they have never had to experience the kind of outsider or imposter-syndrome he felt at Cambridge and at Westminster. Much of the media has become elitist again and London-centric again and so many bylines are family names - it is too often a small world covering a big world badly.

Today’s energy tax cut will give families some breathing room on bills, and provide some reassurance this winter. This will be funded from the cancelled Digital ID scheme this year, helping to bring down inflation while supporting households in every postcode.

🚨What kind of a government does this to its own people?
Labour's new India trade deal just came into effect.
Labour have snuck in a last-minute amendment granting Indian professionals FIVE YEARS of exemption from National Insurance contributions.
That means that if an Indian company wants a job doing in Britain, they will get a tax break for choosing to send an Indian employee to do it, rather than hiring someone in our country.
That creates a massive incentive to increase immigration as the number of job openings sinks to the lowest level in years.
Britain's young people, in particular, have been slapped in the face yet again: youth unemployment here has now surpassed that of Greece and is getting close to Spain’s disastrous levels.
It’s yet another example of the political class putting everyone else ahead of British citizens.
In one breath, Labour denies the existence of two-tier Britain. In the next, they introduce yet more discrimination against the people they’re supposed to represent.
How much longer are we expected to tolerate a government which spits in the face of the British people?

Tomorrow will mark the next chapter, with a new Labour Prime Minister working tirelessly to deliver for the people of our country. Keir Starmer will leave Downing Street, having made the country better than it was two years ago.
When Keir became Leader of the Labour Party, I watched the news while isolating during Covid, carrying out my duties Leader of a council in the most extraordinary of circumstances. I remember turning to my husband and saying, ‘I feel hopeful.’
What followed under Keir's leadership meant that, for the first time in many years, I felt proud to be a Labour member – the political party I first joined at the age of 14.
From rebuilding local constituency Labour Parties during the dark years, to leading LGA Labour (our brilliant Labour councillors worked tirelessly through all those years when we were losing national elections), to serving on the Labour Party National Executive Committee before the general election (attending meetings while almost nine months pregnant and two weeks after giving birth with my baby), to being elected as the MP for Barking, to being appointed a Government Minister – I am so proud to be able to say, ‘I was part of it,’ in a small way.
Most of all, I am grateful to Keir for his leadership, which saved the Labour Party and got us into power so that those who desperately needed a Labour government have benefited, and will continue to benefit.
