I don't like debating theology, but a word of warning to evangelicals: the more y'all push a theology debate with Latter-day Saints into the public eye, the less you might like the outcome.
@NathanielGivens If LDS are right, I go to the Terrestrial Kingdom
If Christianity is correct, and LDS isn't it, then you will suffer the consequences of your poor Theology
Popularity doesn't mean correctness
Jesus actually said otherwise, even if you use his name
LDS should not debate Theology
@NathanielGivens Because Mormons are super special chosen ones who are all Bible geniuses?
Very meek of you to alert everyone else to your power level and warn them to walk away
@Lorenzo_Roybal@NathanielGivens Eh, I think all theology has some level of mess, but LDS has less than most, in many ways, inasmuch as we can say that there is one. What do you understand to be required to be "christian"?
@theboocer@NathanielGivens Why would we have to "defend biblically"? That sounds like you're assuming your worldview and conclusions at the first. Additionally, we can and do so effectively, if we choose to. Tell me, what have you done to study the biblical texts, perchance?
@NathanielGivens Seriously? I have followed many threads on this app and most Mormons are not able to defend their church biblically. They continually will source other mormon books. I have yet to come across a mormon with deep doctrinal knowledge of the Bible.
@Hattydovah We'll see what I can do after I get into my graduate work in the Classics. Unfortunately, I tend to view it as a field that killed itself, of which Beard is an example.
Classical Scholars need to learn how to communicate
It can't be the case. It CAN'T be that the most famous roman academic alive sounds this dimissive of popular Roman topics the average enthusiast loves to talk about
Yes, history is complicated. It's also fun, if you let it be
@ROMEMAXXING@Hattydovah I don't consider Mary Beard to use traditional historiography, but primarily I've seen social history work from her, strictly speaking.
@Hattydovah Love you, man, but from a guy whose idea of engaging content was an eternal "chad vs wojak", traditional historiography will always be lame and dismissive.
