Troy destroyed the story beat of the original story because doom hung over Achilles. Having him enter Troy and missing the sucker punch to the Greeks of Achilles destroyed the essence of hopelessness and at that point. It robbed Odysseus of his genius.

The challenge with Nolan for The Odyssey wasn’t solved by “Troy” back in the mid-2000s. The problem is much deeper, and The Green Knight (2021) showed us why. The modern mind just doesn’t comprehend the true nature of “myth.” If you divide “material” and “spiritual,” you’ll miss it. If you try to make the story fit modern notions of “history” bound by scientism, you’ll miss it. If you ask “what’s ‘real’ here and what’s symbolic?” you’ll miss it. The Green Knight actually does a good job of making you feel how disorienting real myths are to the modern mind. But it’s hard to portray myth and make it a box office success.

I've had issues with casting of ancient Greece and Rome for a long time. There has been way too many Northern euros playing southern euros. Let's say the Northern peeps don't fair well in the sun. Basically the north has been culturally appropriating something not theirs.

I disliked that movie because it fucked up the most important story beat, Achilles never made into Troy. The greeks fall into despair and then Odysseus gets the idea to build the horse. They couldn't get a southern European actor to play achilles.
