@GoldenAspen1492 Thank you for your insight! I have always had the understanding that there is a direct punishment for sin as seen in the fall of Adam and Eve and that a payment had to be made to ransom us from our sinful nature. Not because God is a bad dad, but because he's holy and just.

@GoldenAspen1492 I appreciate your thoughts! I'm trying to understand this view more holistically. Are you saying that God didn't pour out His wrath on Jesus and that the Son didn't take our place of suffering and death as punishment that we deserved?

@SamwisetheSwol Yes and no. Yes, Christ's atonement is a satisfaction of divine justice. No, his Passion and Death are not a vicarious punishment nor do they find their origin in the Father's Wrath in any exclusive sense.
