PERSONAL EXPERIENCE BASED LESSON :- How I'm ensuring sleepless nights to an abusive driver for damaging my vehicle (Read Below) * Incident :- A car attempts aggressive left side overtake on narrow undivided road. Pushes me towards oncoming traffic risking my life. Causes dent on left side, deep scratch on door & loss of ORVM cover. While I stop on side, he abuses & runs away. * Step 1 :- I send e-mail complaint on same day. Within 3 days, I visit PS and submit signed complaint + dashcam footage in pen drive + Sec.63 BSA certificate affidavit for electronic evidence. * Step 2 :- Police register FIR and complete scene of offence Panchnama, call owner phone as per RTA records but no response. Officer goes to his address and serves notice to appear for investigation. He reaches PS & spends half a day producing original DL, RC. BUT DOESN'T HAVE INSURANCE! *Step 3 :- I'm called to give my statement. Offender initially blames me unaware of dashcam footage. Once he sees it, starts begging for mercy. I SHOW NONE. *Step 4 :- I get an estimate for repairs - A WHOOPING Rs.27K/-! I file a Motor Claim Petition in local court for Rs.40K for repairs + mental agony & loss of earnings for 3 days visiting PS + fuel etc. WHAT HAPPENS TO HIM NEXT :- * No Insurance = Pay Out of Pocket + Advocate fees for Civil & Criminal cases + conveyance to courts (Maybe approx. Rs.80k - 1 Lac) * No passport without court permission. * Minimum 1-2 yrs court cases. If he moves to another city for work, keep visiting Hyd for court cases. WHAT HE ACHIEVED :- Saved 5 seconds by aggressive overtaking & risking my life. NOTE :- As matter is sub-judice, I'm not uploading dashcam footage, FIR, Chargesheet etc.

We've reached the stage of framing guidelines for foothpaths and Right to Walk. Now we're only a few decades away from disabled friendly foothpaths on paper. Thereafter only a few more decades from implementing it.

@phoenskk @malpani Let's hope to see this implementation in our lifetime. There are various orders on right to walk since 1980s. Now we're in the phase of framing guidelines in 2025.

A bad habit of many drivers in India is to apply sudden brake or stop without warning. In this case, a biker lost his leg. Car driver pleads that his pregnant wife had to vomit (most common excuses) and so he stopped suddenly. Now car driver has to pay 50% compensation to biker

The only solution to all the mess is to elect good representatives which is not our people's priority. Hence everyone suffers collectively.

Imagine having to pay this sum from your pocket or end up in civil imprisonment . Hence never drive without third party motor vehicle insurance.

@DriveSmart_IN We're hardwired for this restless behaviour from childhood. It begins with rushing to school, then to office and then for every other event. Sad that even children are not spared in this time driven world.

Tricky moment: The school bus driver should've waited for all the kids to board. In some countries, traffic must stop for a halted school bus,but once it moves, vehicles can move. Informing kids not to run into the road is the action in our control.

Lesson:- 2 wheelers are risky for single user and deadly with dual riders. Never risk your life on riding skills of unknown persons. Spend on safe commute when available.

Risks with bike taxi:- A senior citizen relative of mine with his usual miserliness always preferred bike taxi over autorickshaw & cab. Yesterday his bike taxi crashed and fractured his leg. They're not sure if it'll heal due to other ailments. (1/2)

@DonitaJose As long as there is no clean & safe pedestrian infrastructure, increasing public transport will also fail to attract those who can afford a vehicle.

An important reason why we should drive responsibly and follow the traffic rules. These days insurance companies are hiring their own forensic experts as well. They're also gathering CCTV footage whenever available to pass the onus on insured driver or negligent motorist.

This is why you should always ensure transfer of ownership in RC card of your vehicle when selling it. Liability always remains with owner in RC card. Similarly never give your vehicle to someone whose driving skills you don't know.
