Let’s be clear: Newsom has done next to nothing for fire survivors for 16 months. 16 months later he wants to review and “offer clarity” on the most simple premise!? Let me offer clarity for you. 1) Property taxes for property that no longer exists should be $0 until certificate of occupancy. Not deferred. Eliminated until you can move back home, 2) State and local taxes should be $0 on a rebuild instead of $5 BILLION projected. This is “disaster profiteering” by the state and city that is deeply responsible. A fire of your own making shouldn’t be a profit center, 3) Policies must be put in place to reassure insurance companies that this level of gross negligence and ineptitude at the city and state level will never happen again, 4) Settle the lawsuit. This incompetence has destroyed lives. The solution is very straightforward. State policies selected plants (weeds) over people. You failed to put out a fire that burned for 6 days… ultimately wiping out a city that you’ve historically milked for tax revenue. Now you continue to do so despite the most diabolical outcome. Follow steps 1-4 above. Show real accountability toward your constituents. THAT is leadership. Not performative nothingness like your post. Let’s be clear: LA fire survivors who lost their homes shouldn’t have to pay property taxes based on a value of a property that no longer exists. Today my office urged LA County to offer clarity and assurance for these impacted survivors so that they can continue to defer payments without penalty.

2 days before the fire Pacific Palisades citizen John Alle expressed grave concern with Mayor Karen Bass. Alle challenged Bass on leaving Los Angeles with known wind conditions after a dry season. Yesterday, after almost 16 months, John Alle bravely stepped into the spotlight. This video captures the recording from 1/4/25 - just 2 days prior to the unnatural disaster Palisades fire that should NEVER have happened. - Bass left with NO Deputy Mayor of Public Safety who had called a b*mb threat to City Hall. - Bass left with a 1/1 fire still smoldering on state grounds above the Palisades due to a protected plant. - Bass left with up to 40% of fire apparatus not available or inoperable. - Bass left her Fire Chief who Bass later fired. - Bass left the Palisades with a reservoir nearly empty and limited water pressure as a result. - LA City predeployed limited fire people the day of the fire. Bass erased all texts despite requests from LA Times. - According to LA Times Bass then conspired to impact the LA Fire After Action Report. As citizens we demand to know what happened. City and State claimed complete immunity and judge denied thank goodness. We want all discovery NOW. 1) Address these allegations. We want to understand fact from fiction. 2) Set policy that doesn’t allow for this to happen to any other community in Los Angeles ever again. 3) Learn from this ineptitude and gross negligence. I appreciate the White House offering to help ensure CA fire victims are fully compensated by insurance companies - we should all welcome the help and encourage our CA leadership to take it. I propose Mayor Bass, Governor Newsom, & all of the insurance company CEOs fly to DC, meet with President Trump, do a roundtable, and not leave the room until there is a solution where fire victims get paid quickly & fairly. Since LA & CA are having budget problems, I’m happy to pay the plane tickets for the Mayor and Governor. Let’s get it done.
