Biden did adjust plans to address changing economic environment - arguably overadjusted spending fueling inflation. There were same type plans in ‘00 & ‘04. Challenge for Dems too long on wordy plans & too short on clear ideas.

The idea that candidates for office should be pushed to release lots of detailed “plans” reflects a kind of fake sophistication about policy that ignores how the legislative process actually works. slowboring.com/p/candidates-s…

@StefFeldman True re legislative agendas but Trump has gone way faster more wrt agencies (trade, hhs, dod) and huge EAs. They run way less stuff thru WH and policy merits aside move way faster.

This is a misdiagnosis of the problem. Clinton did this. Obama did this. Biden did this. Problem for Biden was that his VERY historic legislative accomplishments did not solve inflation. And ppl do not feel much of the impact before Nov 2024.

🚨JB PRITZKER on his proposed "Agenda 48" for the next Democratic Presidency: "Here's the one thing we should learn from what Donald Trump has done: he came into office with an agenda, and implemented it within his first year. We need to have our agenda. We need to make sure we pass it in the first year. And it needs to be BOLD."

The policy change on this list that would do the least to help people is eliminating the Trump tariffs. Even for those who believe worst case inflationary impact is still coming, hard to imagine if reversed in 2029, business would pass that back to the consumer.

Given everything, it feels strange to write about Democrats’ debate over what to put in a 2029 reconciliation bill. But it’s happening. Can Dems raise $1T or $2T or $5T in revenue? And which policies get first priority? Link below:

2/spending can be better in some cases although if I had a dollar for everyone who asks when Biden FEOC rules were coming, we could fund every idea. Ds should take policies that are workable and progressive and get to people - regardless of the form

1/ Are De for tax cuts? It’s been refreshing to see Ds w/ some new tax ideas, albeit w some policy flaws. Do those who oppose saying Ds shouldn’t be for any tax cuts forget what EITC and child credit have done re poverty while being harder to DOGE.

The EITC, child credit and ACA progressive smart policies thru tax code that voters support. Govt spending less popular & hard to get out door. We have enough 20/80 issues in our side.
Alex Jacquez@AlexSJacquez

Sen. Van Hollen is usually right on the money, but this is deeply misguided. We have a tax cut party. It’s the Republicans. We’re not going to outdo them. The race to exempt people from paying taxes is only going to erode our fiscal situation and our democracy.
