Congratulations to #Libya on signing a unified national budget for the first time in over 13 years—after months of U.S. facilitation as part of a broader roadmap toward peace and national unification. Stakeholders from west and east set aside their differences and accepted compromises for the sake of their country, bolstering financial stability, defending the value of the Libyan dinar and the purchasing power of the Libyan people, and strengthening the Central Bank of Libya. This new budget will also support development projects nationwide and ensure financing for the national oil corporation so that it can increase energy production, revenues, and prosperity for the Libyan people and their international partners. The United States will remain at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to bring unity and lasting peace to Libya, such as the successful budget talks that resulted in this important milestone. We will continue to support Libyan efforts to unify economic, military, and political institutions and create the necessary conditions for successful national elections, with facilitation from UNSMIL and the roadmap of UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh.

I had a productive call yesterday with General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander of the Libyan National Army. We discussed Libya’s continued progress toward a unified national budget and its important role as host of a spoke of AFRICOM's upcoming Flintlock 26 exercise. These are meaningful steps that can help strengthen economic and military integration, national unity, and institutional cooperation. We also exchanged views on opportunities to advance regional stability, enhance security coordination, and support long-term peace and prosperity across Libya and the broader region.
