Today I again voted to re-open the government, resume vital services for Maine people, put people back to work, feed the hungry and secure an opportunity to avoid a harmful hike in health care costs.

Average school-age child spends 3-9 hrs/day looking at a screen, & you're blaming schools??? Ever tried handing your kid a BOOK? 0-2 yrs old: 1 hr 2-5 yrs: 2-2.5 hrs 5-8 yrs: 3 hrs 8-12 yrs: 5-6 hrs 13-18 yrs: 8-9 hrs

To the teachers that allow students to listen to music while doing independent work: you are doing the greatest disservice I can think of to kids. If anything, put on meditation or classical music for the class via your smart board.

Schools are now structured so that the majority of student misbehaviors essentially have ZERO consequences…and that’s horrible for schools overall…but especially for the students that are not misbehaving.

Never thought I'd have a chance to say this, but I freaking love our discipline person at my school. Here's why: - Our policies are real; in other words, they are designed to maximize learning, safety, and security for our students. - He understands that one wayward student can make the class untenable for the 29 other students. - When a kid gets out of line, we're encouraged to write them up and they get real consequences, up to and including expulsion. - He will fight the fight for teachers, no questions asked. - On the rare occasion he disagrees with a teacher, he will not mention it in front of students because he respects our authority. Public school teachers should be very jealous of my school.
