@SmutTerry The Father Brown stories by G.K. Chesterton. Basically, what if Sherlock Holmes was a humble quirky priest with a reformed criminal for a best friend. I see you said Holmes is a bit old-timey for what you're looking for, but I still recommend it for the plot twists.

There's a lot of engagement farming aimed at writers, asking questions about "your protagonist" or "your villain," etc. I'm on my 15th novel. Exactly which protagonist or villain would you like to hear about?

@sirbenjaminjr The fun way: look up specific things on Pinterest, read a book, listen to a song I know is inspiring. The awful but unfortunately more productive way: Sitting down and writing whatever comes to mind until I reach flow state.

If you could possess one item from LOTR, what would it be?

@trad_poet It took a few reads before I could keep all the characters straight, but so worth it. Easily one of my favorite books.

I implore readers of The Lord of the Rings who have not yet read The Silmarillion to do so. It is an essential pilgimage into Middle-earth. After a short climb the view is breathtaking. It is not hard, ignore the memes.
