8 November 2007. Anglican cleric Chad Varah died (aged 95). He founded The Samaritans help line to help people contemplating suicide. He answered the first ever call made to the brand new helpline. A person whose life made a real difference to preserving the lives of others.

I don't understand why solar panels aren't *already* compulsory on new builds. If I had a roof (I live in a basement flat), I'd be putting solar on it.

Rose Valland, a French art curator, secretly documented Nazi art looting during WWII and later aided in the recovery of thousands of artworks. Her heroism saved much of France's cultural heritage. She is one of the most decorated women in French history.

🚨NEW Rail operator Northern is taking two more people to court on Monday after they used their Railcard before 10am - just days after @transportgovuk ordered the operator to review similar cases.

In a heroic move, Gisele Pelicot fought to make public the videos of her unconscious rapes at the hands of over 50 men and won. She wanted the public “to look rape straight in the eyes.” Shame, she said, must change sides —from the victims to the perpetrators. Police found more than 20,000 videos and photographs of Gisele drugged and being raped by various men on her husband’s devices in a folder titled “Abuse.” On Friday, the judge complied with Gisele’s demand and showed the evidence “necessary for the manifestation of the truth.” 12 rape videos and 10 photos were shown over the courtroom’s three flat screens and projected into the overflow room for members of the public while the perpetrators in the videos sat in shame watching their own despicable criminal acts being exposed.

Here Prof Fong explains how every nurse he met was traumatised by watching patients die, being only able to hold up ipads to their relatives and how it went against their normal practice of trying to ensure a dignified death, with family there.
