Whoops, lost my pinned tweet in a mass delete/purge. Anyway, here's how I make bread. It's dead easy. If I can pull it off, so can you.

@mjrobbins @WhichUK There are noble intentions at work, and I'm the person who seeks out and turns off every well hidden "legitimate interests" cookie, but yes. Stuff like this is mostly posturing.

@Chelseachemist1 @WhichUK yes - we should be thinking about what's genuinely useful/meaningful to consumers. I'm not sure that forcing Apple to open up the ability to back up a device to a third-party store is actually good for users. Vital backups should be a) frictionless and b) secure

@katebevan @WhichUK Absolutely that’s a sensible course of action. I think the recent epic games vs Apple case shows a tendency now to want to have absolute freedom in theory on software that for average user isn’t useful.I’m meant to cry that my Xbox only has the Microsoft store not the Sony one

@Chelseachemist1 @WhichUK yeah, there's a trade-off. I tend to think it makes sense to back up your device to the proprietary cloud, but that you should have a second, third-party, backup for documents/photos etc

@katebevan @WhichUK Party app stores which obviously won’t be as safe for typical users as the App Store is seems to be overreach that will compromise customer security 2

@WhichUK tbh a good outcome that would allow both parties to claim they "won" would be for Apple to lift its free tier to 15GB rather than 5GB, which would match Google.

@WhichUK Also, Apple hasn't banned third-party cloud services from its app store, which would be anti-competitive. Also, Google does the same thing, ie restrict device backups to its own cloud. So I don't know why Which? hasn't included Google in this rather quixotic action.

@katebevan @WhichUK And health and messages are pretty personal stuff. I assume Apple wants to protect its brand of safeguarding privacy.
