@SCNathan @Peston As has been noted by others, the RCN campaigned for safe staffing levels to be agreed, to ensure vacancy rates didn't get too high, but the government refused. Staffing isn't safe day to day when not on strike, which is a major reason why nurses are on strike in the first place!

@Peston Isn’t one problem that some areas: A&E, ambulance and some rail, aren’t meeting what any sentient person would describe as minimum standards right now, on non-strike days. Surely workers are likely to point this out and demand those minimum standards.

I've rarely read legislation so lacking in underlying coherence and logic as today's bill from the government that would significantly restrict the right to strike - and I quote - in "health services, fire and rescue services, education services, transport...
