Very excited for this research collaboration retreat with @Drexelautism & @PennCMH! “We do our work in a different way than a lot of other places do. We focus on how we can make our communities better places to live for autistic people.” - @DSMandell

.@Philly311 My child and I were turned away from @phlprek at 9:04am and now I am missing an entire day of work because of 5m of traffic. Yet, paying customers were let in late around us. Is this how you treat the people who need help the most? @PhiladelphiaGov #PHLpreK

Love this language reframing. Only thing I would add for “rigid/inflexible” - consider how incredibly flexible the autistic individual may already be. You might see me so brittle I’m about to break - but it’s because I’m already bending over backwards for you. #ActuallyAutistic

How should #researchers & also #policymakers talk about #autism? The language utilized in #autismresearch can directly impact the #autisticcommunity. To learn about respectful autism language, check out this supplement article in @aap_peds Click here: bit.ly/3ETZDA6

@AutisticCallum_ Omg I do exactly this. All the time. Or I will remember exactly why I did something the way I did it but couldn’t remember or process quickly enough in the moment to explain. It’s *maddening.*

Processing delays make me more subservient than I’d like. When someone brings up something I’ve done “wrong”, I think for a second, agree with them, feel awful and then apologise. But, an hour later I remember that I did exactly what they asked and wish I could revoke my apology.
