I’m at home at the moment and have spent a night in my childhood bedroom. This shelf is Danish and was all the rage in the late 70s/80s. These little trinkets are a snapshot of my life. Please note the Whimsies!

My younger sister is having her first child in a few months and so for Christmas my family decided to do something really special. We came in possession of my great, great grandmother’s rocking chair. It was the only possession she took with her to America from England in the 1880’s. It was in rough shape since it hadn’t been in use for a generation, but we decided to refurbish it and gift it to my sister. We restrained the wood, reupholstered the entire thing with new fabric, and made a pillow detailing its generational lineage. I’m really proud of the work we did on it and my sister loved it, but it also served as an additional witness to me of how important family history work is and how vital it is that we stay connected with what came before.
