@pete_savin Good job, Pete. Wouldn't have been possible to see if the photo was too grainy.

Did anyone spot the Roman altar in BBC’s Wolf Hall this weekend as they shot on location at #HaddonHall. The dedication by Quintus Sittius Caecilianus is to a romanised god Mars Braciaca (god of malt) obviously a cereal warmonger. #RIB278

Something a little different to go in the replica kiln firing @VindolandaTrust on Saturday 6th April, a Roman flagon or costrel, based on one found Corbridge #Arcaeology

A #Roman lead curse tablet, which directed divine ill-will towards a man named Antonius, who is also seemingly pictured on the tablet, & named twice. The curse was laid on him about 1600-1700 years ago - but the curse sadly does not tell us what he had done... #Archaeology

How cool is this graffiti on a dentist chair @TWAMmuseums Discovery Museum I spotted today! Didn't have chance to find out much as Nieve was off, but bet there are some fascinating stories linked to this piece

Part of a #Roman Soldier's pay was in salt, the solarium argentum, from which we get the word for salary. A soldier’s salary was cut if he “was not worth his salt,” a phrase that we still use to this day.

@pete_savin @archae_delle Oh, there are just a few tasters up at the moment. The rest of RIB II will start coming out in tranches starting in the new year, and I'm aiming to complete the roll-out by summer.

Yesterday whilst looking through our pottery stores, Clara found this Roman jar with graffiti on the bottom that reads ‘Gaius the Fish-Eater’ with a drawing of an animal, possibly an otter 🦦 Did this hold pet food? SO CUTE Found during dredging in the Irish Sea #FindsFriday

A really insightful analysis of a tombstone found in the northernmost reaches of the Roman empire by a Palmyrene man for his British freedwoman wife and what it can tell mobility and the complex interactions of a multilingual society.
LatinNow@LatinNowERC

Queenie from South Shields had a short life but is having a long after-life. Read about what her fascinating tombstone tells us about life and languages in the Roman world and how much lies tantalisingly out of reach. @classicsforall @ClassicsNorth latinnow.eu/2022/07/31/viv…
