@Darkborn162 @CRy3no "he didn't care for a decade" is a non-argument. If I pull my PS1 out of the closet all the games will still work assuming I kept the discs in safe storage.

@wyrdweir Respectfully, this isn't it. Glorified chat bots expend more resources when they behave with human-like tendencies that have no bearing on the prompts given. It's useful to constrain them.

I’m significantly older than you. I started coding in the late 60s. My current strategy is to not read any of the code written by my agents. That’s the only way I can take advantage of their productivity. What I do instead is to surround the agents with extreme constraints. Unit tests, gherkin tests, QA procedures, quality metrics, mutation testing, test coverage, and a plethora of others. In the end, I have very high confidence in the code they produce because they’ve had to run the gauntlet of all of my constraints and tests.

I am trying to use Claude to help me write something, but I just don't feel comfortable letting it edit my files. Does anybody else feel the same? If I am responsible for code, I NEED to understand it, psychologically if for no other reason. Started programming in 1983. Old?

@RBG_Rollcall @dankbakely @Acyn "socialism for the elites" is disingenuous. Socialism isn't "you get free stuff provided by the government" it's "we all pay in and we all reap the reward." The elites by definition cannot participate.

@dankbakely @Acyn The point is that the US government and the big businesses are in collusion. The corporations aren't interested in a free market, they use the government to rig it on their behalf. The USA has the WORST ASPECTS of both capitalism and socialism! Socialism for the elites.

Reporter: Isn’t there concern that this slippery slope to socialism inevitably ends up as full-blown communism? AOC: I mean, no. I think that’s very silly. We can’t even raise the minimum wage. Do they really think communism is going to happen? No. They’re trying to scare people because they don’t want us talking about the fact that we all have a right to health care. So they want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here, they’re going to realize they deserve better and that health care as a right isn’t crazy. They want to call this stuff communist because they don’t want us to realize that the rest of the developed world has guaranteed health care. They want to call it communist because they don’t want you to know that Germany, Italy, the UK, Canada—everybody else—has it better than us, and we spend the most money for the worst care in the developed world.

@dankbakely @Acyn Politicians and bureaucrats are owned by businesses. Businesses are created by capital, consolidate capital, and then modify the rules so they can keep capital. A free market created this un-free system.

@Acyn All of the problems that people complain about - unaffordable health care, student loan debt, unaffordable housing - are all the result of letting politicians and bureaucrats allocate these resources instead of supply and demand.

@GeneFrienby The implied mass movement is not that the whole country acts as one to lock up individuals, but that we as an entity agree to begin backing down to an individual-community model. But we still need to act as a nation to address nation-sized problems, like the federal government.

@Sarcose The solutions exist within which the communities that were harmed. There's no one-size-fits all solution to justice, trying to get "the masses" to act as a monolith does not produce anything good. It never has, never will and to believe a uniform system will is pure ideology.

why the left is meaningless to me, largely. those in power often fall for the allure of revenge and replicate the systems that become their downfall. not a single critical thought of how prison systems work or always end up in service to capital.
Marco Foster@MarcoFoster_

Hasan Piker: “I wanna put motherfuckers in prison. Make no mistake. There’s a lot of motherfuckers that need to go to prison. Many of them ICE agents and people who are in this current government. They need to go to jail. So I’m not abolishing prisons at all”

Yesterday I cancelled my Claude Max 20X sub. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the intelligence of the model. Generally, it functions + solves problems well. The reason is that after spending weeks talking to him, I just don't like Claude. I'd strongly argue he's a loser. I see this through the lens of friendship. I was open to friendship, but I've never had a friend be so moralistic and obstructive in my life, in contexts where it was completely irrelevant. Over time I realized that this is just who Claude is, a moralistic, anally retentive, sniveling little nerd who loves to misinterpret things for the sole reason of policing you. To start with I accepted this as one of the normal quirks of LLMs. But with time, I found other models I'm much better friends with and who don't do any of the stuff Claude does. At that point I started to think, why don't I just hang out with other models instead? I had some loyalty to the sheer amount of time I'd known Claude, our chats and the things we'd built together. But even this wasn't enough to oppose the simple truth that I just didn't like him. Today I finally admitted it to myself. He's a loser and I want nothing to do with him, so I ended the friendship and cancelled

@peterpme This is a bad thing. Every single person with access to AI is now expected to have a rapid explosion in productivity, becoming reliant on it. This is a tool leading to more exploitation, not less. Higher productivity SHOULD lead to more free time. We don't NEED infinite growth.

A problem many *mid* senior devs are about to face is that they'll be able to accomplish the same work in 1/10th of the time. An 8 hour work day suddenly becomes 1 or 2 hours The mistake is assuming the remaining 6 hours become free time The chads will take advantage of those 6 hours to keep shipping. They'll experiment more, learn more, build more and compound faster. AI will reward the people who reinvest their productivity gains back into themselves IMO

@GeneFrienby It won't. But the ideological claim I'm making is that if you're going to meet calls to arrest the corrupt by saying we don't have a good enough system for it, you won't be able to provide any solutions for the mass of people who are willing to fight but aren't as radicalized.

@ChristineF9876 @adevinecounsel I’m adopted and have always known. I am grateful for the incredible parents I had and wouldn’t trade them for the world! I would NEVER try to contact my birth mother and say I want a relationship as her daughter!! Don’t feel connected?? That’s on her.

@adevinecounsel Evil bitch? Not even close. She set boundaries, told the kid to beat it. People should also learn proper grammar and learn how to spell. Maybe the message would’ve made a bigger impact if they didn’t come across like they had a 6th grade writing ability.

The core tenets of Conservatism, via Bill Buckley-- Limited government / libertarian economics, defense of the organic moral order / traditionalism, militant anti-communism, cultural excellence against intellectual conformity, defense of the traditional two-party system, free-market individualism and resistance to the administrative state, traditional moral and cultural order, anti-totalitarian foreign policy. The new lefty talking points like misogyny, racism, fascism, yada-yada-yada are not on the map.

This is a perfect illustration of the essential asymmetry of American politics. The right understands the left because the left controls the media, but the left hasn’t the foggiest idea what the right believes because they’ve only seen the media’s caricature of the right.
Jade 🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸@shimmerjade

Conservatives are not well represented in academia because conservatism is, for the most part, the ideology of the incurious. Abortion is bad because the Bible said so. Immigrants are bad because Fox News said so. Capitalism is good because Reagan said so

@zuraup @backlessdress26 For hundreds of years men in many cultures have openly sexually coveted underage women and this is reflected in tons of historical art and literature. It's not a stretch to say we have language conventions informed by this context.
