I can place my earliest memory to roughly 1997. Now I am nearly 32 years old, I see that money has HALVED in value. It's literally worth half of what it was when I was three years old. If I live to be 95 years old, and at this rate, money will lose 98% of its value from 1997.

I just moved from California to Nashville. I am done with the anti-American, gay and retarded politics of California. Tennessee is extremely based: -Chemtrails banned -Constitutional carry; no permit required to carry a pistol and defend yourself / loved ones -Growing #Bitcoin community (shoutout @bitcoinpark_) -No state income tax -State doesn't force your kids to be vaxxed -Does not feel like I'm living in a 3rd world country

@bramk @cryptonomista I just listened to BFM #225 with Mauricio and want to thank you both. This was a really superb episode. I really enjoyed Mauricio's enthusiasm and hearing his perspectives. Felt like another jigsaw piece slotted into place in my brain!

@rustyrockets @maxkeiser Governments around the world want too, and are, implementing a central bank digital currency for their populations ... My question to Bitcoin zealots... Why would global governments allow the decentralised digital Bitcoin to compete with their CBDC's? ... they won't  !!

@shagbark_hick How much money has this saved you in the last three weeks? Must have been spending a fair bit on beer

I have to say, after years of heavy drinking and coffee use, I've recently cut both out to very good effect. Previously, I was on ~3-4 cups of coffee daily, 5-7 beers per day. Now I'm only drinking tea (and no booze) and have done so for 3 weeks. Sleep has improved *dramatically*. My nerves are as calm as a stone, and my wife has noticed that I seem very chilled out. I think more slowly, have an ultra-stable mood, and feel very "Buddha-esque." My prayer life has deepened; I'm less distracted. This experiment has also given me a newfound appreciation for tea. The upside of heavy tea drinking appears to be unlimited. And the 'buzz' imparted by top-shelf tea is, though subtle, extremely enjoyable. I am lately "tea drunk" all day long and loving it. I drink 5-7 cups of it daily, rotating through Darjeeling, Oolong, and Jasmine green -- frankly, the 'buzz' is nearly as satisfying as that produced by beer. Might stick with this regimen for a few months longer.

The oceans are full of plastic exactly BECAUSE you recycle The plastic you recyle is majority shipped to Asia and dumped into rivers and oceans there It makes you feel good separating garbage but you're just polluting the oceans more than if you'd just burn it as general waste
vittorio@IterIntellectus

yes, asian and african rivers produce 95% of ocean plastic but nobody asks where the plastic comes from. plastic recycling is a scam. always has been. the industry knew since 1974 it “cant be justified economically” they funded the recycling campaigns anyway because the alternative was banning plastic. only 5-6% of US plastic actually gets recycled and europe isnt better. the EU exports 1.1 million tonnes of plastic waste per year, 3 million kg leaving every single day. 31% goes to turkey, 16% to malaysia, 13% to indonesia, all labeled “recyclable” most plastics cant even be recycled to begin with (thousands of types, different chemical properties). and for the few that can, the output is lower quality and more toxic than virgin plastic. you literally degrade the material each cycle until its worthless. so what happens to the other 95%? western countries ship it to southeast asia and africa under the label “recycling exports” with the receiving countries promising to recycle it in their stead for a price, but those countries dont have facilities either. so they burn it or dump it in rivers. every 20 minutes, a 10-tonne truckload of plastic enters the ocean in indonesia alone. it may look like indonesians pollute more but that’s because we ship them our garbage and they have no infrastructure to handle it. china used to absorb it all. when they banned imports in 2018, the west just redirected to countries with weaker regulations. malaysia, vietnam, philippines. the map below shows the result. you sort your trash so you feel like youre helping, the plastic goes on a boat, gets burned in a village without emissions controls, poisons their air and water, flows into their rivers, enters the ocean, and in your food and water. you feel good about the plastic you recycled and never think about it again but you end up eating it anyway. then we ban straws and plastic bags and call it environmentalism

@shagbark_hick The USD loses about 5-10% of value every year. Where do you put your saved dollars to avoid loss of purchasing power?

Many claim I am "downwardly mobile," but I earn far more than I spend in a month. I keep nearly every dollar I earn instead of spending it on high living costs. Consequently, I have YEARS of living expenses banked. Money piles up extremely fast. This is "upward," not downward.
forward deployed chud@fdchud

Being downwardly mobile shouldn't be anyone's aspiration. It's kinda neat that he's out here doing it and he has a good system but even the assumptions of it that he makes are vastly out of the range of young men nor is it a lifestyle that should be aspirational for them.

Sit with this for a moment. These aren’t just rising prices…they’re rising demands on your TIME. We trade our precious, irreplaceable time for money that’s quietly losing value. If you want clarity - and a hopeful way forward - my book, Bitcoin Is for Everyone, is for you.

Men ages 18 to 25 should NOT be "comfy." They should not "stay on track." They should go way off the reservation, live rough, slum it, be sailors, infantrymen, ruffians, hoboes, roughnecks, etc for a while. The most high-quality men I know all did something like this early on in their manhood. Some simply moved to a random city far away, or went to Alaska, had a period as an addict, ran off to join the Marines, slum-traveled it around the world living on pennies, bicycled across America, whatever. Some were missionaries in third-world countries or did a stint in the ghetto. If a young man doesn't do something like this -- something where he is generally uncomfortable for long periods of his early manhood -- he's ruined. He becomes kind of... "bloated," finicky, weak, and that "bloatedness" is etched into the foundation of the rest of his life, with roundly negative results. Anyone with influence in a young man's life MUST exhort the lad to have his "Teddy Roosevelt" moment. How he chooses to do it doesn't matter -- just so long as he is definitively NOT "comfy" for at least a year or two.
