Last year @Justify3107 and I (Harmony Bloodstock) gave out our top 8 colts from the 2 year old sales, ranging from 250K in now G2 winner Crude Velocity up to 3 million dollar G1 winner Brant. 6 of 8 were TDN Rising Stars & 7/8 are winners. 💫 This year tho we are going to switch it up & give out a few horses that sold for 50K or under that we believe were the best “value buys” of the season. I believe that if you put in the hard work, have the passion & humbly learn from the best that you can still find a very nice runner at a value. So here are 4 value plays that we have high hopes for if they stay healthy: 1. Omaha Beach x Force To Excel - 40K at March OBS 2. Mo Donegal x Lucy Buckner - 50K March OBS 3. Mind Control x Gather Round - 20K March OBS 4. Rogueish x Gray Nicole - 45K June OBS
Save Horse Racing@SaveHorseRacing

And a huge shout out to @DanielAlva85 & @Justify3107 who both knew this colt - who only sold for 260K - was one of the best colts from all last year’s 2 year old sales before he even sold. Desert Gate also made my “Elite 8”two year sale colts last year along w/ superstar Crude Velocity (250k) and 6 of 8 Rising Stars including G1 winners such a Brant. We will be posting our “elite 8” again after June OBS this year if anyone else wants to join in :)

Most of those listed have Bernardini as 1st dam sire but he is in all of their pedigrees in some way. AP Indy had many great sons but Bernardini stands head and shoulders above the rest - not only in his ability as a 3 year old race horse but his impact upon the breed. Would have been something to see him as a 4 year old 🥲 I got a feeling we would have seen a campaign like his 2nd dam sire, Spectacular Bid, rendered at 4.

What do Knightsbridge, Nysos, Magnitude, Sovereignty, Journalism, Englishman, Fierceness, Golden Tempo and Renegade all have in common? It is time to admit that Bernardini is turning into one of the most influential sires of this century. Tho his sire line is not doing all that much, his impact on the US breed is undeniable. It’s reminiscent of the impact Secretariat had on the breed from below, much like we saw with AP Indy, Gonewest and Storm Cat. Bernardini is here to stay! 👑 🐴

Yep, it is basically everywhere in the top dirt horses. If Bernardini isnt the 1st dam sire as he is with Nysos, Sovereignty, Magnitude, Knightsbridge, Golden Tempo, he is the 2nd dam sire as with Journalism & Renegade, or the sire’s dam sire as with Englishman. The diversity of Bernardini to work with Into Mischief, Curlin, Uncle Mo, Not This Time, Unbridled, Street Sense, Gonewest and all the breeding shed’s biggest names has really helped him too. You can basically add Bernardini to anything and it automatically makes it better.

Flightline and Life Is Good were both truly 2 of the most brilliant horses we have ever seen. Both have as much of the “right ingredients” to become successful sires as one could ask for. Ironically, the first time I saw Flightline work on XBTV I thought “this colt looks just like Life Is Good but is a Tapit”….and that is what Flightline ended up being; he had the speed and brilliance of LIG but could carry it all day long. Now, as for who becomes the “better sire”? I think OBS gave us a glimpse into the future: LIG was consistently pumping out 9.4/10 speedy runners, but I didn’t see any have the -4 TBX # class & gears that Zedan did. I think LIG will be like a Practical Joke 2.0 and have very good consistency, speed and precocity. But when we get into the classics and stretching out, that is likely where Flightline will separate himself…. yesterday's race was even a microcosm for that as the LIG jumped out early and wired it but the Flightline colt was closing quick and probably wins at 2 turns. Don’t expect Flightline to win that freshman title but expect his babies to be a force in 2027.

And here we go🍿 Our first real preview of both LIG and Flight babies head to head and The Good Life got the better of Powerline A colt who’s a carbon copy of his sire and the other possesses incredible ability. Going to be so fun watching these babies 🔥

Just WOWED looking at some of the mares in foal to Life is Good(@WinStarFarm) and Flightline(@LanesEndFarms)🤯 Some absolutely brilliant pairings. These yearling sales can’t come any faster, I’m so excited to see these yearlings from these soon to be GENERATIONAL sires🤯👀

Sounds more like Knightsbridge TBH…. Magically gets a 113 and 122 beyer when not facing G1 horses 🤣 But in fairness to both horses, horses arent machines. They are extremely sensitive and fickle animals. They can run huge one day, under a certain set of circumstances, then totally fold under another set of circumstances. Just look at Knicks Go - literally never lost a race when let loose on the lead and never won a race when off the lead. Ado & Knightsbridge both seem to really need to get their way, get comfortable, or they won’t run their best. I still maintain that Cherokee Nation maiden win this year was one of the best 3 year old races we have seen in a while (fastest Santa Anita mile in a decade) - but in that race he didn’t eat kick back, he got lasix, he was allowed to get comfortable and get into a groove……take away all these things and he goes from one of the best horses in the crop to just an average Joe. Horses are just such wildly predictable animals that seeing a plastic bag to them is like us seeing an alligator in our bedroom. Their entire bodies are more sensitive than the most sensitive part of our human bodies (our fingertips). In the blink of an eye they can go from being relaxed to blowing up and thinking their life is in imminent danger over a shadow. By simply changing hay types they can go into colic and die ☠️ The only predictable thing about horses is how wildly unpredictable they are. Us human crave pattern recognition and trying to find what it is that makes a horse run big one day and not so big the next. Sometimes we can hit the nail on the head, but a lot of the times it’s just horses being horses and big unpredictable animals. You can have the best horse in the whole world, but if they blow up before the race, spook at their shadow, then all bets are off. 🤣

@AitchBeeBee Will probably be longer than 2 years as his 2024 and 2025 booking were insane and had many standout dirt mares. So those babies hit the ground in 2025 and 2026 and we won’t know what they truly have until they are 3+, so 2029-2030ish.

For the NA, how well is Justify doing at the moment??? Obviously he’s won all the male classics in England and has the best stayer on the planet BUT considering his fee is $200k, he’s been awfully quiet especially on dirt the past 2 seasons @SaveHorseRacing @Tinky47flat

Exactly. Context matters here. This was a 190K RNA yearling at Keeneland. Practically no one wanted him. Donato took a second look at him at October and they got him for 325K - still a steal for an Uncle Mo that wins first out at Ellis while wide and green. This guys second dam is the full to Summer Squall & half to AP Indy. This is the kind of big striding 2 turn bred horse that Zedan needs for his program aimed at winning Classics. No, he didn’t run a 101 beyer like Brant or run off the screen like Arabian Knight, but this is not a cranked OBS type horse and the kind of horse that is crying out for distance & time. I even told @Justify3107 I didn’t think he would be the type to win first out but would be a nice router at 3….so the fact he even won, showed heart, guts & the will to win is huge. This is generally what Derby horses look like around now - see what Golden Tempo and Sovereignty were up to in July at 2. Super excited to see what his future holds & glad Zedan shopped every sale to find a colt like this. 🙌 One cant control where the best horses will show up, hence why you need to shop every sale & be willing to give young growing horses a second look.

Let’s Goooo @ZedanRacing Salahudin!! Whenever you see the GOAT @DonatoLanni securing a colt for Zedan at Fasig Tipton October: buckle up For a big striding son of Uncle Mo from the family of AP Indy to win 1st out and going 1 turn is so impressive. Congrats to the @BobBaffert Barn!

Let’s Goooo!! The red hot @ZedanRacing secures his second yearling this year with this gorgeous Uncle Mo colt from the family of AP Indy for 325K. Congrats to all connections and cant wait to see him next year 🐎

Yah Fierceness was so ‘win one - lose one’ early on 😂 Further Ado really has put on some bonafide monster performances at Keeneland. There is nothing fake about what he has accomplished there - he just seems to flop every other race tho. Horses are just such unpredictable animals which is what makes this game so fun (and heartbreaking 🥲). Playing Ado next out should be free money 😂 Not sure what happened to the Puma, perhaps the layoff and slop got to him?? 🤷‍♂️ He is better than that when he is on.

It’s a Talla Racing + @BobBaffert Double today with Corniche’s Holmy getting it done after Splendora’s romp 🏆 🏆 The 🐐 bloodstock agent @DonatoLanni Quarto Passi ran a huge 2nd as Girvin continues to stack up checks this crop since being given better mares 💴 Bob is off to another red hot start w/ 3 winners (Hughes, Salahudin, Holmby) & 2 seconds (Nayar, Quarto Passi) from 5 two year old runners this far 🐐

I think it is much more the dam, Catch The Moon. Like Into Mischief, both have kind of mediocre Storm Cat line sires but blue hen dams. There seem to be 3 type of good sires. 1) Those with excellent sire of sire blood, like Mr Prospector or we are recently seeing with Uncle Mo 2) Those that were just mega freaks, 120+ Beyer super horses, like Arrogate or Macleans Music 3). Those with blue hen dams like Into Mischief and Not This Time The more of these 3 traits you can stack in your favor the higher chance of success. Also, as a side note, they REALLY should get Catch A Moon to Gun Runner. He is phenomenal with Malibu Moon.

@JohnnyMcMa60482 Pretty much. And when he gets loose and comfy on the lead he is a whole different animal. Multiple seconds faster than Splendora who is a solid and consistent 100 beyer type mare. We may be looking at another 114 type beyer for Knightsbridge today.

@DiomedesArgo Agreed. He was kept at one turn for a while but everything about him screams 2 turns and today vindicated that. He has a tremendous high cruise speed. There are maybe only 2 or 3 horses in the world that could have hung with him today.
