@Kissamies_ @Lutra_Gaming Too true about 2nd running out of ideas. XP (released in early 2000s) was a return to what was good about 1st and 2nd. The latest editions though…yikes

@Lutra_Gaming Yeah. 1st was when their ideas were fresh and they refined the rules system in 2nd. Towards the end of 2nd they ran out of ideas and just started to reference pop culture and other RPGs all the time. I hear the [RETRACTED] edition was all just that.

I wish game companies and even ones that would pick up the IP of the older titles would make reprints of the older games we all loved and not the TRASH that is out today for the 12 people who like playing trash. Dont get me wrong some good games in recent production do a good job of game design and content. Titles such as BATTLETECH Paranoia Twilight 2000 CarWars(1st-4th edition) Aftermath Everything from D&D Basic to the 3.5 edition StarWars (West End Games) D6 These are just a few of the titles that would be great as reprints that we can enjoy during the Golden Age of TTRPGs. Purchasing them on eBay is just too much to get good games to play with friends.

@AwesomeLiesBlog I loved 3rd Ed so much. The amount of time I spent with the Warhammer Armies book just making lists I would never play…

Here’s the current painted IF army I’ve been working through. Decent progress but a lot more to go to finish this project, I might make it a 2024 remaining task #WarhammerCommunity @warhammer

@Gingerblast The guidance for running a game in Mothership’s Warden’s manual is solid gold and good for any sci fi RPG

@ickbat The old WFRP adventure “Shadows Over Bögenhafen” is a fantasy adventure but very much has this vibe at points.

Has anyone played a city-based ttrpg that ran like an exploration or dungeon delve? What was the game, and what made it sing? I’m thinking about a particular kind of (often New Weird) urban fantasy that is very much about the secret, hidden spaces in cities.

Relatedly: if you perform/record TTRPG actual play and have *current* experiences with unrecorded games (“home games”) I would like to talk to you.

@SavePodcast Yeah that's cool DM stuff and I do it too, but is that baked into the pie? The reason I'm being so picky is because the counter-argument so often is asking the DM to take that on, instead of the system itself starting from there.

I question any game calling itself "collaborative storytelling" when the primary relationship is between a single person with unlimited narrative control who is responsible for crafting 90% of the story and a group of 3-8 people with extremely limited narrative agency.

@TTBenjamin1 If players are travelling for A to B I’ll often ask them “ok - tell me what happens en route.”

So things like that, things that push the GM into a reactive position, where the player has more control, that reads as more collaborative to me. There are much bigger examples, but I hope you see where I'm coming from.
