In Presbyterian polity, the people are served by two separate yet equally important offices: the elders who teach and rule and the deacons who serve. These are their stories <Machen horn> <Ardor & Order theme music>

We'll have a show Thursday night concerning the proposed PCA worship directory.

Well, I am "Rayburnian" so I am going to view the flesh/stone contrast differently.
I didn't hate the essay when I read it, and I don't mind discussing the questions. I agree that regeneration is much more complex than often presented (especially when John 3 is being used).
However, when I read it, my reaction was that this was something that sounded more Lutheran than Reformed.
English

@Saville1561 @sassiterian There are also philosophical/theological questions: Is "regeneration" a change in our "nature"? Do we have a "nature" that is or can be changed?
The Joint FV Statement said that these things were not something those of us involved in the conversation agreed on.

English

Right. I remember the essay.
I think the concern with that essay as well as some other writings is it sounds like everyone in the covenant (elect and reprobate) shares in exactly the same benefits in Christ. The only thing that really distinguishes elect and reprobate in the covenant ultimately is preservation/perseverance.
You're right. This essay doesn't reflect the views of all who have been associated with the FV. I have also not encountered this in my reading of Norman Shepherd or those in the GKV / CanRC.
English

@Saville1561 @sassiterian That was Jim Jordan's view, put forward in a paper called "Thoughts on Sovereign Grace and Regeneration: Some Tentative Explorations." Note the word "tentative." Doug Wilson opposed Jordan's view. It wasn't the view of everyone you'd associate with the so-called "FV."

@KenShepherd It's going to be bad. I'm not sure they will lose the Florida governorship, but it will be a bad midterm.
English

@barnes_law If you are a GOP incumbent and didn't carry your seat with 60+% in 2024, you should be nervous.
English

@KenShepherd Not really. It's more Catholic than average with Carroll College. Overall, Montana is not very strong on church attendance.
English

I dunno. Helena as a devout city? Is that true?
Benny Johnson@bennyjohnson
I’m in Helena, Montana with my family. Just a reminder that Real America still exists. Check this out… - Patriotic imagery - Idyllic towns - Christianity at the center of life A place where you can raise your kids and live free America is the greatest country in the world 🇺🇸

@Jeff_Palouse @blakecallens I don't see a straight line. I would pay to listen to George Grant.
English

@Saville1561 @blakecallens In the early 2000's, I and many others paid to attend history conferences in Moscow led by pastors who were at best amateur historians, and eat overpriced barbecued chicken. There's a straight line from those conferences to these, even if the ideology has steadily degraded.
English

@blakecallens Is this just the trash world conference reimagined?
English

@Saville1561 Enough that they've been able to upgrade the venue from previous years.
English

@John_Barach @RevZekveld @canonpress @crossway Of course, he is allowed to. But it does seem absurd. People frequently will have media associations with those with whom they have (public) disagreements on some matters.
English

@RevZekveld @canonpress @crossway I can understand that having criticized the "Moscow Mood," Kevin DeYoung might not want his books shared via Canon+, because that could give the impression that he is behaving hypocritically ("He criticized them, but he doesn't mind getting royalties from them").
English

What a bummer. My daughter would specifically ask for Kevin DeYoung’s Bible stories on @canonpress because she wanted to learn more about the Bible, until @crossway removed their books from Canon.
Canon Press@canonpress
A notice for Canon+ subscribers enjoying @RevKevDeYoung books on Canon+
English

@presbyterianpew @mikeeternal Certainly it offers more to current subscribers (and thus helps to keep them). Do you think it brings in new subscribers though?
English

@Saville1561 @mikeeternal Why would Canon+ spend money licensing rights to material they didn't think would earn them any revenue? Why advertise that they now carry KDY materials and invite people to join for access?
English

@presbyterianpew @1600sPaleocon Sure, but it does mean less access.
English

@Saville1561 @1600sPaleocon No one is preventing anyone from reading KDY 🤷🏻♀️
English

@1600sPaleocon @presbyterianpew I guess some are unworthy of the privilege.
English

@presbyterianpew Yeah we can’t have Canon+ fans reading KDY.
English

@presbyterianpew @mikeeternal I doubt it was going to bring in extra revenue. All it does is make the material less easily accessible to some people.
English

@mikeeternal I wouldn't want there to be an appearance of cooperation between a PCA pastor and Canon+ and I wouldn't want KDY's material to help bring in revenue for Canon+. That audience still has access to his materials, just not in a way that contributes to building their empire.
