John Swinney blames “hyperinflation” for the SNP’s failure to keep its 2021 promise to freeze income tax rates and bands. John Swinney obviously doesn’t know what hyperinflation means.

1/ Angus Robertson’s performance yesterday in parliament was absurd. His entire defence for never attending a HES board meeting is that there was no need to, because his civil servants were keeping him fully apprised of what was going on. Well plainly they weren’t.

@bbcquestiontime EXPOSED: Judge who slashed sentences for serial paedophiles is the same one who rejected Lucy Connolly’s appeal against 31-month prison term for a tweet. “It’s the mother who put out a tweet that he has no mercy for!”

“This is a very small amount of savings that they have now paid a big political price for” Hashi Mohamed says Reform UK’s success at local elections was partly a “protest vote”, showing Labour that voters are “unhappy” with policies like winter fuel payment cuts #bbcqt

This is the napkin on which a young economist called Art Laffer doodled a curve that he said showed that tax rises would reduce tax revenue. It's the most consequential napkin in history, inspiring a movement that led to series of tax cuts in the US, UK and across the world.

@MichaelTakeMP Always good to get the considered opinion on Canada’s economy from someone who trashed the British one. Have a feeling that Carney will last a little longer than Truss did.

If Liz Truss, one of Britain’s most effective and widely respected Prime Ministers, says Mark Carney will not be good for Canada you know this will be the case. Say what you like about Liz but her judgement on all matters political is ALWAYS spot on.✅

Scottish Teachers for Permanence

Jenny Gilruth claims many teachers are unwilling to move for work. Yet across Highland, Moray, Shetland, the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Argyll & Bute, Angus, and Aberdeen councils, there is just currently just ONE permanent primary teaching job advertised. Just one.
Scottish Teachers for Permanence@Teachers4Perm

Yesterday, @JennyGilruth said in parliament that supply was a choice for many teachers in Scotland. Today, we asked 787 supply teachers if this was true. 97% of them told us that they rather not be on supply.

@Teachers4Perm @JennyGilruth Is that Hobson’s choice? I thought they had civil servants to stop them making a fool of themselves or making false or inaccurate statements for political gain.

I gave this TED talk warning Silicon Valley of the profound threat of it posed to democracy nearly 6 years ago. It provoked a lawsuit that caused me years of pain. The UK government did nothing to contain the threat. And here we are.

🙄 All we can learn from Anas Sarwar's empty statement today is that Scottish Labour is taking lessons from Keir Starmer on making pre-election promises; without the action to back it up. thenational.scot/news/24734046.…
