Cocktail (1988) won a Razzie for Worst Film of the Year, and I demand a recount. It shaped bar culture. It looks gorgeous, you get Elisabeth Shue AND Gina Gershon, an ultra-charismatic Bryan Brown, and Tom Cruise doing Tom Cruise-type things. That bad? Or do we love it a little?

I think my big Roxie won’t be here much longer, her back legs have almost given up on her and she’s not doing the best… vets have given her meds to keep her sedated the majority of the time. At 9 she’s exceeded expectations but I’m fucking heartbroken💔, gonna spoil her rotten.

In the early ’80s, two landmark TV films tackled nuclear war: The Day After (US) and Threads (UK). Both showed the effects of nuclear fallout on ordinary people. They were grim, unsettlingly accurate, and terrifying. Neither offered a happy ending.

Happy 80th Birthday, Timothy Dalton. Dalton’s potty‑mouthed Prince Barin in Flash Gordon (1980) delivered the first movie swears I ever heard, and he does it beautifully. Add Ornella Muti’s Princess Aura, and yeah, this film definitely nudged me onto the right path. Freeze you bloody bastards.
