The NFL settlement, predicted to pay $765M, is about to pass $1.2B in compensation for neurological disorders associated w/head impacts - with decades left. Also, due to the race norming problem, nearly 3,000 players are eligible to be retested before March. Info for players ⬇️

The only way the unscientific amateur/professional dichotomy makes sense to me is that this an organized attempt by people in the sports industry to try to create this (cynical & inappropriate) narrative: 1. Amateurs don't have increased risks, so keep signing your kids up. 2. Pros may have increased risk, but they were adults and paid for the risks they took, so don't feel bad for them. Otherwise it makes zero sense to divide a disease with a clear dose-response relationship into whether or not athletes received a paycheck when they were at risk of developing CTE. We should be discussing CTE by cumulative force to the brain or years of exposure. I can't imagine what a parent will feel if they sign their child up based on this kind of statement and then watch their child becomes one of the "unlucky" ones.

Shane Tuck's sister says the late Tiger's family suffered a 'horror show' as he battled CTE. Renee Tuck hopes Shane's story will save other athletes as it was revealed the AFL could introduce helmets from next year. @penelopeliersch #9News
