Here’s how you stop tanking. Get rid of the draft but allow the teams 30-1 by worst record the right to offer a larger rookie contract than the best teams.

I see confusion with the CURRENT draft lottery and order here a lot.
If teams are tied, there is no tiebreaker. In the lottery, their odds and combined and divided equally. Their actual position (ie draft floor if they don’t jump to top 4) is determined by a coin flip. All draft slots with teams tied are decided by a coin flip.

The obsession with this issue has FRIED people's brains. Fans now see tanking in ANY late-game mishap.
Sure, some tanking occurs in the LEAST important games. But players are not intentionally losing.

If the goal is to eliminate tanking "full stop" like Adam Silver predicted, I don't see how any of these do the job. Tanking out of the playoffs would damage the NBA's brand more than what we have now imo

The NBA presented three comprehensive anti-tanking concepts to its Board of Governors on Wednesday, with modifications expected to each before a formal vote in May, per ESPN sources. 1. 18 teams in draft lottery (seeds 7-15 in each conference) – flattened odds, with bottom 10 teams having an 8% chance, the remaining 20% odds distributed in decreasing order for 11 through 18, and and a lottery drawing for all 18 picks. 2) 22 teams in lottery using 2-year record (seeds 7-15, plus the four playoff first round exits in both conferences). Lottery teams would reach a minimum win total floor in each season, such as 25 wins. If a team falls short of the floor, it gets slotted to meet the floor. Top 4 drawn as part of lottery, as is currently. 3) 18 teams in a "5 by 5" lottery – bottom 5 teams have equal odds for the top pick, with lottery formed for picks 1-5. Bottom 5 teams have a floor at 10; those that fall out of top 5 get sorted in a separate drawing.

Make the games 40 minutes. 8 x 82 / 48 =13.667 That’s the equivalent number of games you would reduce the schedule by. Without breaking arena leases. Works for college. Works for international. Works for the WNBA. AND. If you looking at tv and streaming ratings, the less the actual playing time for a televised game, the bigger the ratings. Ie, the less time fans have to focus on a game, the more they enjoy watching it on tv

@DrewHanlen Non playoff teams get same odds. Lottery is PUBLIC, and some formula of “#1 pick can’t pick in top 5 for 5 years, 2 can’t pick in top 5 for 4 years, 3 for 3 years” etc. what ever works.
Playoff teams pick get the last half of picks, in order of elimination.

It shouldn’t - but it genuinely surprises me how the NBA has a fundamental misunderstanding of this issue.
