This study of statin prescribing at primary care visits found that nudges to clinicians with or without a patient nudge increased the initiation of statins, but that a patient nudge alone was not effective. ja.ma/3uelIEW #Nudge

@bmorecardiology @JAMACardio Difference between BPA & nudge might be that formal is often considered nuisance like junk email while latter is not. Would be worth doing a head-to-head comparison to see which is more effective, if possible.

"Nudges" sound so harmless... and each idea for a "nudge" in isolation, makes so much sense... take them together.. you get a doc simply clicking "not indicated" 12x for the BPAs to GO AWAY so they can get thru the work = #burnout @JAMACardio

@bmorecardiology @JAMACardio Clinical nudges are quite different than BPAs, and if done correctly happens behind the scenes. I.e. having generic drugs pop up before expensive trade. Names has a positive impact. This happens behind the scenes without the doctors knowing it by BPAs @chaz_hong @bmorecardiology

We have great long term data from Walter Reed showing those persons with CAC=0 derive 0% benefit from 10+ years of statins. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30409567/ This is one of many such studies. Let's treat the disease, not everyone dies of CVD.

@AnnMarieNavar @rashmeeushah @ericpetersonMD yes, the younger pt is always a quandary as CAC scores are not "as" helpful as in the older population. CAC in the young only helps me if positive.

@rashmeeushah @AnnMarieNavar @ericpetersonMD The "Power of 0" data states with a 0 score, usually >50 yo in females have a <1% event rate and thus no statins.

@AnnMarieNavar @ericpetersonMD Good stuff! My LDL has been in the 140s ever since I first checked in my 20s. My calcium score is 0 and no one in my family has ever had a heart attack or stroke. Statin?
