@squirma1967 @bambinasalina Ahh yes the infallible blood test. All diseases and illness can be read on a test result within days of contact. No need for precautionary measures....we have science.

@rabidmonkey @sarahmccammon @GeorgieBeani Is that the point? To keep him underskilled so he needs to rely on parents for longer? It's a stretch but there are some parents who don't pass down skills, to justify their authority and position. Or to feel needed. Which is a very human want but can hinder another's progress.

@sarahmccammon @GeorgieBeani What you're actually teaching him is to be reliant on someone else for basic stuff he should definitely be able to handle himself. Being able to keep track of his own schedule is a skill he will need to succeed.

There’s an important test tomorrow at my son’s school and my moms thread today is basically just all of the boy moms mining all of the girl moms for any information about what’s actually going on and what time we need to be where - because none of the boys actually know!! 😅

@sarahmccammon Some parents don't let their children try bc of the fear that if the child fails, it is a reflection of their parenting. Like a codependent feedback loop. When the secret is failing is part of the learning g process. It teaches is what to avoid next time.

@wontwobadsoup Reform doesn't highlight the extraction by billionaires. That is the key difference. One party challenges the status quo the other wants to benefit from it.

the labour party is throwing everything at the greens instead of e.g. reform, who have 100x more racists, because they dont care about reform's racism

Has Zack Polanski’s public approval rating fallen because he’s now less popular with the public, or because the public have been utterly bombarded for the last few days with anti-Polanski messaging from the media, commentators, experts, non-experts, and everyone else?

@owenjonesjourno @dailybritainonx I admit to not being impartial, but I actually felt Polanski performed well in that interview. It was Phillips who at times came across a bit tetchy.

@heatherbarr1 My local council did a study with the local uni to prove that ipads were useful. I looked at the research. It was asking the students directly how they felt about the ipads. It didnt look at statistical evidence showing improvement in exam results or collaboration in classrooms.

@southrunner24 @cierzo1 Holistic approaches to learning was a brief era. (2012-2018) Now it's results driven. Pupils need to tick boxes before they leave school. There is no room in the curriculum to spark curiosity and that is key to imparting knowledge.

This isn’t just about revision, it’s about schools extending control into family time. Weekend/holiday sessions being effectively compulsory, with sanctions for non-attendance, overrides family commitments, wellbeing, and parental discretion. Support should help, not punish.
Tom HB@hb_history

🚨 A letter to Year 11 families at Michaela Community School states that children who do not attend weekend and holiday revision sessions will “spend time in Referral” They must also attend in full school uniform

@wtflanksteak Makes me think about the social pressure these kids have to endure. when i read out in class it was a scary moment. But how does that work these days? Any moment can be turned into a meme or go viral. these kids don't have the space to make mistakes in public like I did.

I think the scariest thing in that video of the high school kids trying to read that index card is that they can't sound words out, completely skip words they don't know, and bail entirely when they hit a word they don't know! I know how reading education changed but still sad!

@delysscious7 @0riettaRose It not fair but it is the reality. I asked my fam member if had she'd the 'talk' to with her teenage son They said 'no the school are meant to do that' Another one of her children was on a school chat talking bout su***de. That same parent said 'the school should handle that'

@0riettaRose One of the most aggravating things I consistently see is millennials / Gen X saying it’s the teachers fault if so many kids are failing. Yes, that’s usually how it worked backed then. It is not that way anymore. The teachers cannot possibly make the lessons any easier atp.

@0riettaRose I've been working on this with my kid. I focused on comprehension and recall. We read the hobbit and then watched the films. I paused throughout (a set limit on how often) to discuss what they had picked up or any qts. The next week my kid went over where we left the story.

There is no legal requirement to have an email address, nor is there a requirement to have a cell phone or use certain apps. But our government and far too many corporations behave as though this is the case. It's a tremendous problem.

@theashrb With the rise of superstition and misinformation, the mechanisms used to control ppl are the same as always. The occult can have a strong influence on groups and is a relevant topic to studying. P.s I'm biased and studied religion. (For similar reasons)

It’s a PhD, so whoever gets into this isn’t being “taught” anything, they’d be the ones researching the history of magic and occultism… a completely valid topic to research lol
Lewis Brackpool@Lewis_Brackpool

I genuinely had to check if this was real. The University of Exeter now offers a PhD in Magic and Occult Science. Even if you don’t believe in any of it, the sheer number of absurd courses our universities are offering students is staggering. I would love to shut this down.
