After re-tuning our television sets several times, and many months of watching a fuzzy logo on our screens… this finally happened, 29 years ago today…

@PaulEmbery No joke but before in my old social club bar job, the bar would be empty. I mean seriously no one in there until about 11pm. I've must have made countless paper airplanes out of bookie papers in boredom. Times basically change along with social habits and such.

When I was growing up, pubs would often be rammed until closing time (not so much during the week, but certainly at weekends). The bell for “last orders” would usually spark a rush to the bar. These days, even the most popular pubs seem to start emptying out around 8.00-9.00pm, including on Fridays and Saturdays. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Is there a reason for it?

@SeasonDeeper When I was kid, we had what we called a water plug. It was litteraly just a plug that we put in to the wall socket near the fireplace. The wire went through the wall and in to the back boiler if our old Baxi Burmuda C2, had to wait a while for the water to heat up.

Repost if you remember having to put the immersion heater on for a bath on a Sunday for school the next day.

When I wave thanks to another driver, I give them a Vulcan salute. Don't really care if they notice, or if they think I'm a sad nerd: I'm wishing them to "live long and prosper" so morally I'm doing a positive thing. Would be nice if someone returned it though, even just once.

If you let your grandchildren call you Nanna and Gramps, then it's obvious one of your children has married into the lower classes. Granny and Grandad for lower middle class; Grandma and Grandpa for the upper middle class and above.
