Yeah, no. Everything in Dragon Ball defers to Toriyama's original manga & words & woks afterwards for what is "canon." People don't like to acknowledge this, but that's what happens nowadays.

Toxic comment aside when you see the current mangaka for Dragon Ball say “everything is canon” you can’t be judgmental like this anymore. There are of course filler episodes that CANNOT fit with the rest of the story but I think the whole “anything you want is canon” approach to dealing with other fans comes off more humble for sure than treating people like they are stupid.

I just think it woulda been silly to say Son Goku when they say Bulma Briefs and not Briefs Bulma lol.
Idk if Kai removed Briefs as her surname.

@Woodlandbuckle Begging you all to look up what Funimation did to their old dub in the seasonal DVDs. This dub is FAR from perfect, but I'm seeing people post a ton of issues that aren't present in the original broadcast versions.

@Kugoa_ @BasedPota18 Thing is, in Japan, you typically say the surname first when addressing someone by their full name. And in the 1 place they let him say it, he still said it in that order. There's also things like Goten wearing a shirt saying "Son Goten," so I think that's overthinking it.

@Scsigs_YT @BasedPota18 Well, again, it wouldnt be "Son Goku" but rather "Goku Son", otherwise people would (rightly) assume his name is Son but goes by his surname Goku.
The reason Son Goku works is because its a nod to his inspiration, Sun Wukong. Unfortunately Goku Son just doesnt sound as good.

@MistNinjaJulian @KingpinThawne I didn't handwaved it. I just don't think most of the censorship is a big deal. The only one I felt was dumb was the over censorship of the Raditz fight. That's about it. The censorship like that got lessened over the course of the show as well, so I don't think that's a big deal

The main demo was teens anyways and they’re in their 30’s now.
