I've come to realize that the Meta Manus acquisition marks the beginning of the end of the media buyer as we've known it for the past decade and a half.... Media buyers will be doing work that really has nothing to do with buying media and will fully evolve to become full stack growth strategists. In some ways it's been a slow burn with more automation than ever in the last 36 months, but I truly believe this is the inflection where we see an exponential removal of the human touch on traditional media buying work. This is a good thing, humans should be doing higher leverage tasks than than toggling switches and budgets all day.

If you really believe most jobs will be replaced in 10 years by AI why do you think banks are still offering 30-yr mortgages?

Saw video of a house flipper in New Jersey: They paid $166,000 for a property that needs ~$105,000 of repairs. The new value will be ~$505,000 which means after 5 months of work their profit is ~$200,000. ...Why aren't more people doing this!?

@Sakshi50038 I don't think AI is going to take jobs from engineers. Simply imagine two teams: one solo and 3-person team. Assuming they are all of equal calibre, 3-people will likely outperform a solo one. So hiring will stay. But true, you don't need dozens of people anymore.

@Sakshi50038 Engineers are early adopters of new technology. Everyone else is still sleeping. Most people have tried ChatGPT with a few low effort prompts and still have no clue what it’s capable of.

I have a very stupid question about AGI: If AGI replaces production, and therefore there is no need for labor, then there are no jobs and consumption disappears, obviating the need for production. So doesn't *the thing that does all production* necessarily ruin the economy?
Shane Legg@ShaneLegg

AGI is now on the horizon and it will deeply transform many things, including the economy. I'm currently looking to hire a Senior Economist, reporting directly to me, to lead a small team investigating post-AGI economics. Job spec and application here: job-boards.greenhouse.io/deepmind/jobs/…

This gets tricky because the employers lose negotiation leverage. Right now employees have to ask for a raise and employers balance employee happiness/pay scale. If they pay for a service (agents) and Anthropic doubles the price, they have little to no recourse. Obviously the dynamic will be more complex than that since Anthropic (or any provider) will want to maintain subscribers, but the power dynamic flips.

i feel like shit doesn’t get serious until employers start calculating salary costs vs api credits like this isn’t really practical right now, definitely not normalized. agents aren’t reliable enough… yet but when the labs start inching closer to going public and profitability questions arise the next marginal buyer of compute can only really come from existing businesses replacing salaries with compute
