A stolen iPad led deputies to much more than stolen property. "Conservatives Split on Flock Cameras" I really don't see how that should be a thing. I do not care if they "reduce crime" and the argument of "if you weren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" is some of the stankiest Orwellian BS that I've ever heard. We should not live in constant surveillance. And while we have cameras everywhere now, they are not owned and maintained by a central group. While I don't actively support tearing them down, I am not upset about it either.

Flock cameras do not violate the 4th amendment. Looking at things in public view is not a search, nor do you have a right to privacy from it. It’s literally the entire basis for establishing probable cause.

If you don’t like Flock cameras then get them banned legislatively. What I’m saying is there’s not going to be a constitutional basis for it. I personally do not see the problem here considering they’re all on public property. I also don’t care if they’re banned.

People ask what accountability actually looks like inside @Flock_Safety. This is a good place to start. Every search has safeguards before, during, and after it happens.

Last year during an interview, I made a mistake by referring to people in the DeFlock group as terrorists. I was wrong to say that, and I should have cleared this up a long time ago. That's my fault. Around the time of the interview, I was hearing reports of ALPR-avoidance apps being used (on occasion) for serious crime avoidance, and I conflated that with legitimate criticism. Being concerned about your privacy or how your local law enforcement agency conducts its operations isn’t terrorism, it’s American. DeFlock is not a terrorist organization, it’s an open source project that has gained popularity primarily due to our inadequate response to the questions and concerns that people have about ALPR.  Over the last 8 years, nearly 7,000 towns, cities and counties in America have purchased our ALPR cameras. While these cameras have done a tremendous amount of good in those communities, the recent awareness surrounding their existence has also spiked a fair share of criticism. I think we have failed to answer these questions and concerns at scale, and we are going to do a better job of that moving forward. I know @Rahul has banked a bunch of questions from X last week for us to answer, but feel free to reply with more here. He and I are going to do our best to catch up on these and answer them.
