I am delighted to join the @ilo team as a Director, Senior Advisor for Special Initiatives in the Office of the Director-General, with a focus on the Global Coalition for Social Justice. Happy to bring my experience to support the priorities of the DG, the UNAgenda & ILO mandate.

Very good to meet French Ministers @CaVautrin & @AstridPanosyan while in Paris for #AIActionSummit. We discussed the impact of AI on labour markets, in particular on gender equality, as well as the importance of social dialogue, education, skilling, re-skilling and up-skilling.

Without human and labour rights there is no #SocialJustice. As international labour standards give expression to human rights at work, the @ilo is committed to promoting these rights as foundation of inclusive social and economic development and human dignity.

This #HumanRightsDay, I call for urgent action to protect #OurRightsOurFuture - right now. Human rights are not just ideals for some - they are justice for all. They are the foundation of our shared existence & the measure of our humanity. Protecting them is protecting ourselves.

Une histoire de #médecine : En 1922, un groupe de scientifiques se rend à l'hôpital général de Toronto où sont gardés les enfants diabétiques, souvent à 50 ou plus dans de grandes salles. La plupart d'entre eux sont dans le coma et s’éteignent d'une acidocétose diabétique. D'autres sont traités au moyen d’un régime extrêmement strict, ce qui les conduit inévitablement à la famine. C'est un des moments les plus incroyables de l’histoire de la médecine. Imaginez une pièce pleine de parents assis au chevet de leur enfant, dont la mort est inévitable. Les scientifiques vont de lit en lit et injectent aux enfants un nouvel extrait purifié, baptisé «insuline». Quand ils en sont à l’injection du dernier enfant comateux, le premier enfant injecté a commencé à se réveiller. Puis un par un, tous les enfants se réveillent de leur coma diabétique. Cette salle de mort et de tristesse devient un lieu de joie et d'espoir. Au début des années 1920, Frederick Banting et Charles Best ont découvert l'insuline sous la direction de John Macleod à l'Université de Toronto. Avec l'aide de James Collip, l'insuline a été purifiée, ce qui la rend disponible pour le traitement réussi du diabète. La même année, Banting, Collip et Best décident de vendre le brevet de l’insuline à l'Université de Toronto pour 1 $. Banting et Macleod ont remporté un prix Nobel pour leur travail en 1923.
