Gainey is the only option. Will seriously question boo if otherwise.
No-one has ever heard of this St Louis guy until two week ago bc he won a first round game and preceded to get destroyed round two. St. Louis stumbled down the stretch - think they were near .500 post-January.
Fraudulent “NC” connections - who gives a shit he was at queens or high point. I could care less and it matters zero, those are not connections/ties, you could say he has ties to the Midwest just as easily.
If he were to come here after all he’s told saint Louis and the raise they gave him… he’d be Little Willy-ing them.
Gainey is the man for the job, without question.

@MBernauer5 I am sorry, I just don’t think Gainey is the answer for our program right now. We have a small window of opportunity to try to remain relevant in the ACC. An awful big risk in my opinion to bet on a career assistant. Again just my opinion and maybe Gainey would be a steal.

@KDburnerVibes Honest question, what is it that we are seeing in Gainey that other programs that have passed on him haven’t? Just because he is a NCSU alum and will be loyal? I am not against Gainey but I definitely hope Boo covers all basis before taking the easy higher risk option in Gainey.

@jwckauman @giglio_OG You can’t undervalue head coaching experience. Running a program, putting together staff, administrators, roster construction, academic personnel, operations, recruiting, fundraising, media commitments, etc is invaluable.

Give Boo Corrigan credit, he is moving quickly to land a new men’s basketball coach. Have been told Saint Louis coach Josh Schertz and Tennessee assistant Justin Gainey are the focus. The Board of Trustees has a scheduled call and would need to approve the decision

@giglio_OG Schertz is my clear cut #1 but I am also realistic prying him away from St.Louis might be too much of an ask. If Boo could pull it off I am confident the majority of the fanbase will be estactic and forget the Wade fiasco overnight.

Schertz has had coaching stops in NC as an assistant at Queens and High Point. Went 29-6 at SLU this season and beat Georgia in the Round of 64. Also went 32-7 at Indiana State in 2023-24 had one of the best offenses in college basketball

After just one season in Raleigh, all signs are that Will Wade is headed back to LSU, source told @thefieldof68. "The deal isn't done, but it's headed that way," one source close to the situation told @Thefieldof68. Wade, 43, was fired after a five-year run which included 3 NCAA Tourney appearances due to the FBI investigation that captivated the sport. After a year off, Wade was hired at McNeese, went 50-9 with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances before being hired by NC State a year ago. Wade was 20-14 overall this past season and lost to Texas in the First Four. Wade’s buyout drops from $5 million to $3 million on April 1. He will replaces Matt McMahon in Baton Rouge - who is 60-70 in four seasons and has won a total of six SEC games the past two years.
