Enclosed football ground on the left: no alcohol allowed. Open rugby pitch on the right: folk allowed to drink pints. Absolute absurd situation to be in place in 2024.

If this were Switzerland, say, this would be a nice little jetty down which you could grab a boat or dinghy & float calmly down river to your next destination. But it’s Dublin. So it’s a cordoned off, graffiti and litter-strewn mess that leads to a dirty & underused river.

My Dad got back in touch after 20 years, he was about to meet my wife who is pregnant with our first son, his first granchild, & an hour before meeting he cancelled as he forgot he was playing golf. So I text him, that I'm changing my surname to my wife's thus ending the linage.

@CocoPhilips @john_mcguirk He's not, and if you relax and ask yourself, what is the point. Israel would likely drop a rocket onto the Irish camp if they thought it would take out someone on their list. They will do as they please and nothing happens

We can clearly see that Irish troops are risking their lives for their mission in Lebanon, which makes the following question much more urgent: What, exactly, is their presence doing to "keep the peace"? What would be different if they were not there?
TheJournal.ie@thejournal_ie

A video has emerged apparently showing the moment Irish peacekeepers were hit in a suspected Israeli airstrike as they drove through a village in South Lebanon. Read more here: jrnl.ie/6461064t

If you eliminated every nuclear weapon on planet earth tomorrow, the world would see the return of conventional wars on a level it has not known since 1945. The fear of nuclear weapons has ushered in a previously unheard of period of relative peace between the great powers.
António Guterres@antonioguterres

Nearly 80 years have passed since Nagasaki was incinerated by an atomic weapon. It is not enough to remember what happened. We must never allow such devastation again. The only way to eliminate the nuclear risk is to eliminate nuclear weapons.

@Cathal_Dennehy This is very simple now. She has Lane 4. The race will pan out ahead of her irrespective of how good/bad she runs Friday night. The scrap will be for Bronze. Is she up for a scrap. It’s that simple. If she can run a sub 49:50 she will medal.

She has a chance, and sometimes that’s all you need. The Olympic 400m semi-final might not have gone to plan but the key thing is this: she’s in. Now, crucially, she has 48 hours to fix whatever was amiss in the semi-final. irishexaminer.com/sport/otherspo…

@CaoimhinReilly OK, trying to follow the louth leagues wasn't sure of the whole format .so you only play a team once for a 3 point match in a season, so inevitably it goes on who wins the 3 point match it wouldn't come down to score difference. How is these 3 point matches fairing out?

@SeamusMurphyM It’s head-to-head and if that’s level, the outcome of the three-point match is the decisive factor. Only then does score difference come in.

@robertburke84 So-called self regulation (by profit-maximising tech bros) has failed. This platform is now a sewer, you can’t come on for 60 seconds without seeing racism / misogyny / xenophobia. Stuff you rarely see in real life. And it’s starting now to erode our society.

Irish leaders are often described with words like nice, decent, honest, but underneath it all they have ideological beliefs that represent a very grave threat to their fellow citizens and to democracy. Their willingness to censor, control and manipulate public opinion to maintain power is a cause for great concern.
Christina Finn@christinafinn8

Taoiseach Simon Harris says the era of self regulation by social media companies is over He’s prepared to meet Elon Musk and other social media company execs to discuss Irish government plans for financial sanctions and personal liabilities for failing to remove harmful content
