For people calling Joe names, I want you to take a beat and remember that his wife was killed in the Middle East. He’s entitled to feel strongly about wars in the Middle East, even if you or I disagree. His sacrifice and service as a soldier is owed that respect even if you don’t agree and it’s honorable that he’s stepping down if he knows that he can’t faithfully discharge his duties in a conflict he doesn’t support. I myself have some trepidation about a longterm war but I believe Trump’s record gives him some latitude to handle Iran in a reasonable timeframe. My final point though, is that we can’t demand blind obedience and agreement. That’s not how you build coalitions. I wish Joe nothing but the best as he’s given his best years and sacrificed his greatest love for our nation.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

I heavily disagree with this shift. No illegal should be off limits because some crazy woke person is the mayor. This sends a message to the worst, insane activists that they can have what they want by throwing temper tantrum riots and assaulting law enforcement. That being said, if Trump is trying to shift the ICE narrative with independents then raids in red states need to remove illegals in MASSIVE numbers so the rest flee to blue cities in blue states, which could overwhelm them and force some to ask for help (and force Dems to live with what they voted for). Most won’t ask for help though even if overwhelmed which is one of many reasons I don’t agree with this shift. They’re committed to lunacy but we don’t have to accept that. If I had a moment with President Trump I’d remind him that he was a mandate for mass deportations by the American people and it may be the #1 promise the base cares about. We want strength and total commitment to this.

Prime Minister Carney was right on point to raise with President Trump the prospect of a KXL 2.0 pipeline project. Building a new pipeline to increase Alberta oil shipments to the US Gulf Coast would be by far the cheapest, fastest, and least complicated route for a major oil pipeline. A lot of work has already been done, including ~400km of pipe slung between Hardisty, Alberta and the Saskatchewan - Montana border. Regulatory approval and indigenous support could be quickly renewed for the Canadian side of the project. Lessons could be learned re: the optimal routing on the US side. President Trump, who granted a presidential permit for the first KXL border crossing, has repeatedly said that he wants to renew the project, and would apply an accelerated US regulatory process. Given the topography, stranded assets from KXL 1.0, and relative regulatory simplicity, this project would cost a fraction of a new west coast pipeline. The bigger challenge would be capitalizing it, given the political risk of a future Democratic administration pulling a Biden and blocking it. Regrettably, that’s why governments would likely have to play a role in partially de-risking and project financing its completion. But a 1 million BPD pipeline would easily pay for itself, generating ~$30 billion in exports annually for the Canadian economy. The additional egress would also spur billions of new upstream capital investment, as long as Ottawa gets out of the way by repealing dumb policies like the oilsands emissions cap. Thousands of high paying permanent private sector jobs would be created, not just in Alberta, but for central Canadian manufacturing. Strategically this would increase, not decrease our dependance on the US export market. But it would be a brilliant judo move to find common ground with the Trump Administration, and help him to realize that the US benefits from and needs its privileged relationship to Canada, and access to our resources. Played smartly, Canada’s cooperation could be strong leverage to push for reductions in Trump tariffs, and to protect our US market access via CUSMA. Well played, Prime Minister.
