When staff feel unable to act, the public can end up stepping in. This appears to show an incident at Morrisons involving an egg chair, which then spills into the car park. Retail crime has changed. Policies need to catch up. Customers need protecting. #RetailCrime

Well done to the female staff for stopping the shoplifters leaving with all of the items. Waitrose, Morrisons and Poundland have recently dismissed staff stopping shoplifters. I hope the JD Store thanks these courageous staff members for going out of their way. 👏🏽

I lost my mother last night. Not sure anything can prepare you for the emptiness that follows such a significant loss. 💔 Knowing she is in heaven with my father and sister is the only thing that has made this bearable. 🙏🏻 Hug your Mom today.

This was the last text I ever received from my 34 year old Son, Edward. It was exactly a year ago today. Within hours he was gone. He decided he wasn't "OK" and he took his own life just after midnight. He was fighting on many fronts- Relationship problems, financial worry and issues with self esteem. I think about him 100 times a day. I'd do anything to get him back, even if it was just for 5 minutes. I'd say all the things to him that I didn't say when I had the opportunity. It's too late now. Please take care of your loved ones. Watch over them. Many are struggling. Many are thinking dark thoughts. Many will take the decision to end their own suffering. They need help and understanding. They probably won't get it from the "system" so it may be up to you. Give someone a call today to ask how they're doing. Tell them Edward suggested it.

@higgyboson I can really resonate with your son Edward, I have been in a really dark place over recent months. I was never as brave as Edward. It’s very difficult accepting help as a male, almost frowned upon. ‘We have to be strong, we have to be an alpha male’. Ultimately, we are human too.

Sky Broadband said the best they can do for me is £40 a month (£4 increase). Been with them for 5 years. Go on a price comparison, they're doing a £23 a month offer for new customers only. So fucking stupid.

Retail isn’t always black and white. There’s a difference between organised criminal behaviour and vulnerable individuals or young people making poor decisions. Situations involving children should always be handled with extreme care, de-escalation and safeguarding in mind.

Morrisons SACKS another worker for tackling teenage shoplifter, 62-year-old grandmother and acting team leader Jane Pilborough with 30 years service at the Newark store grabbed a 14 or 15-year-old thief's rucksack as he tried to run off with stolen chicken bites, she walked backwards in front of him asking him to pay first and called for security via her headset but got no response, Pilborough said it was pure instinct in a fight or flight moment and CCTV showed her falling to the ground when he spun around, A clearly shaken Ms Pilborough was helped to her feet and taken to the store's staff canteen after suffering minor injuries to her hand and knee. Morrisons has a strict "deter not detain" policy introduced in 2023 that forbids any physical intervention to protect staff safety with only police allowed to act, bosses sacked her for gross misconduct saying she put herself colleagues and customers in danger and risked the company's reputation if it had been filmed, her appeal was rejected in October 2024 with the firm acknowledging her care for the store but insisting she worsened the situation by not just letting him leave, A spokesperson for the supermarket said: 'We recognise that difficult situations like this can cause real challenges for colleagues in store. That's why, when dealing with a shoplifter, a colleague's safety is always the number one priority and why we have clear procedures in place to de-escalate incidents, to prevent any of our colleagues being put at risk in a physical struggle and coming to harm. 'We believe colleague safety always outweighs the protection of stock. We cannot ignore the potential for violence, and it is essential to remember that only the police are authorised to intervene in these situations. 'Unfortunately, the former colleague's actions and the evidence to the disciplinary hearing showed that, although she had been trained on how to respond to a theft situation safely just a few weeks before the incident, she did not follow that procedure and that led to a physical altercation with a juvenile shoplifter What do you think of the sacking?

Police in the UK are arresting over 30 people a day for online speech, while common crimes go unsolved. Is this the right priority for law enforcement? Watch: youtu.be/hzZevaJ9XVk
