To study the initial steps of the metastatic cascade, I use hydrogels to mimic normal and cancerous microenvironments in 3D. This allows me to investigate how tumour growth, escape and local invasion are mechanically linked.

My research focuses on the mechanical challenges that cancer cells must navigate to spread successfully, a process known as metastasis. I study changes to cancer cell adhesion and the mechanical conditioning that might enhance and protect them on their deadly journey.
