Acting Deputy Secretary Claire Grady has offered the President her resignation, effective tomorrow. For the last two years, Claire has served @DHSgov w excellence and distinction. She has been an invaluable asset to DHS – a steady force and a knowledgeable voice.

I have agreed to stay on as Secretary through Wednesday, April 10th to assist with an orderly transition and ensure that key DHS missions are not impacted.

Our missions as a Department are vast and have never been more vital. You are in the arena- keep up the good fight. Thank you for your sacrifices and those of your families. God bless you and God bless our great country.

To the brave and dedicated men and women of @DHSgov, I submitted my resignation to the President this evening. I am eternally grateful and proud of what you do each and everyday to protect our homeland- each of you are why I came back to serve my country.

Its been an honor of a lifetime to serve with the brave men and women of @DHSgov. I could not be prouder of and more humbled by their service, dedication, and commitment to keep our country safe from all threats and hazards.

This afternoon I submitted my resignation to @POTUS and thanked him for the opportunity to serve in his administration.

I could not be more proud of the men & women of @CBPWestTexas and those in El Paso. Despite extraordinary strain from this emergency, they remain focused on the mission of securing our borders, and they are upholding American values through a compassionate, humanitarian response.

The Paso del Norte Port of Entry and facilities of @CBPWestTexas in the El Paso Sector have far exceeded their capacity—like nearly every other key location along the Southwest Border. @DHSgov MUST receive additional authorities and resources from Congress to end this emergency.

Our emergency response requires more than just “whole of government” action—we need a “whole of society” approach to fixing this catastrophe. @DHSgov is surging all available resources to the border and treating the emergency situation like we would a major natural disaster.

In Yuma, I saw firsthand how dire the humanitarian and security crisis is at our border. The overcrowded border patrol station is our third-busiest and presents a snapshot of how overwhelmed the system is. Congress can’t look the other way. It’s time to wake up and fix this.

Thank you to the men & women of @fema for your 40 years of dedication to our nation & disaster response. This includes more than $50 billion disbursed to disaster survivors for immediate needs & more than $100 billion in grants to help rebuild communities.

What began as a smoldering crisis has ignited into a full-blown border emergency. Where Congress has failed to act, @POTUS and I continue to act within our authority to secure our borders, support our officers & avert an even worse humanitarian catastrophe.

Not only do we need Congress to act, we need any nation that is a source or transit country for illegal migration to act—and FAST. @POTUS has sent a clear message to these governments: “time’s up.” @DHSgov will continue to work with them toward tangible results.

.@POTUS recognized that the situation at our southern border is a true emergency—now we’re engaged in a full-fledged emergency response. @POTUS and I call on Congress to do the same: treat this like the crisis it is & act with urgency to fix the legal loopholes causing the chaos.
