@derek_fee There’s lots of drivers that have never done a test or had a lesson, used to be the case that you got a provisional and you could drive by yourself with it. Then whole tranches of people who had a provisional for 10 years were upgraded to full licenses
I think we in northern Ireland should really consider banning drivers from the Republic of Ireland driving here.
They can’t bloody drive. They don’t know how the dual carriage way works. Slip roads etc
@TinaMax8 How about using taxpayers funds to maintain the City streets, Dublin is filthy, power washing and disinfectant needed for open defecation and urine….
Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Ray McAdam, said he was “selling Dublin” during a trip to California in March that cost the taxpayer €24,000 for five people.
Mr McAdam’s flights cost almost €5,900 while DCC chief exe Richard Shakespeare’s travel cost €4,185.

@Mark_J_Henry@EU_Eurostat BorrowBox is a great initiative from the library service and gives free access to ebooks and audio books through your library card. @dubcilib
The Irish listen to more audiobooks and read more e-books than any other European nation! 25% of Ireland's internet users bought an audiobook or e-book in a 3 month period last year. That's more than twice the EU average, and the number is growing. 🇮🇪📚🎧

🚨Irish Senator raises NAFO campaign to ban Alumina sales to Russia!
@TomClonan has raised the very important issue of Alumina transfers to Russia in the Irish Senate
Our message is getting out, fellas. Let’s keep this going! Share widely!
@OckersM@Official_NAFO#Alumina21
The trip to Antibes was one of >12 undertaken by staff and councillors from Dublin City Council in March. Other trips were to Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Rome, and the US. For a 4-night visit to San Jose for 5 staff and councillors, accommodation was €11K.

You know.
Besides the immoral and devastating export of Alumina to Russia, I never knew about the 50 Million tons of Caustic Waste gathering on the shore of the Shannon Estuary.
This should be a national scandal.
I mean look at it. 👇
With very warm sunny weather forecast this weekend, please remind young people to be water aware: never swim alone, swim only in safe supervised areas, stay within your depth, & be mindful around rivers, lakes and beaches. If in doubt, don't go out.
If someone is telling you we need 'beds in sheds' because of the housing crisis but has nothing to say about regulating air bn'bs or cpo of vacant properties, you know they only care about landlord profits not putting a roof over people's heads.
@whatthefukafuk@adrianweckler It must be the smaller of the two battery sizes is it? That’s shockingly bad though. I have 64kwh Kona getting 350/400 but smaller car. Was thinking of moving up to enyaq.
@Seesee96@adrianweckler Depends on weather / time of year / weight in car etc . But not enough . Maybe 250km in winter at a push when fully charged at best . It’s gone now for that very reason. Shame cos they are lovely cars otherwise
In 2026, it’s cheaper to buy a new electric car in almost all sizes to petrol, diesel or hybrid.
Used to be opposite til very recently.
Especially small cars (a previous weak spot): 4 EVs now under €20k — only 2 petrol and 0 diesel/hybrid at that price

In all the talk about appropriate responses to the energy crisis in Ireland. Virtually nobody is talking about the fact that our accumulated surpluses of recent years (up to 25b Euros) will be completely WIPED OUT by climate change fines if we fail to meet our legal obligations.
🇮🇪👮♂️ I’ve a son who is a guard. I know the situations they put themselves in & the risks they take to uphold the law.
Anger at the Gardaí over the recent protests is seriously misplaced - and Sinn Féin TDs’ refusal to condemn any of the abuse they have received is abhorrent!
@adrianweckler Bought a new enyaq in 23 . Changed it recently and main dealer I bought it off didn’t want to take it back let alone give me something for it . Lost my shirt on it and the anxiety range is real . Went phev instead . Won’t consider full electric again
@adrianweckler@danobrien20 I have a Dacia spring and it’s a demo model
Cost €19k a few months ago
Very interested to hear where €15k as that’s serious value
@GoodieeGoods@adrianweckler This I fully agree with and it’s been the same forever bought my first car 30 years ago and Irish market gets much lower spec as standard. No one to fight for us.
@adrianweckler Ireland's car market is increasingly disconnected from UK, with taxes like VRT and dealer markups stripping away value for money. While UK often get leather seats or all-wheel drive as standard entry-level kit, Irish drivers pay thousands more for basic "entry" specs.
@Trickstersworld It connects anyone with hospitals appointment using the train into Kent. It connects people going to gaa matches using trains into Kent. It connects students coming into cork using trains. It connects shoppers around the city, it connects people to mahon point, etc etc etc
It would cost €475m to give every household a balcony sized plug in solar panel system. Yet we’re paying €2.5bn to cork for a rail system that will serve less than 21,343 people.
This isn’t complicated, folks.
