what winds await us when all horizons have been uncovered when all treasures have been unearthed when all maps have been charted now all journeys are pre-planned no path left untrod nor stone unturned we tamed the world and killed the magic

@jibbles_au @DanFriedman81 Ideally, though, your dialogue should be clear enough that you can tell who is talking and how they’re saying it without needing dialogue tags at all. The whole “show, don’t tell” thing, after all.

@jibbles_au @DanFriedman81 Most of the time, if you’re using dialogue tags at all, you *should* be using said, because that’s how most dialogue is. “He screamed/uttered/ejaculated” should be used sparingly, and only when relevant.

Writers like Dan Brown and Andy Weir, who write ugly and clumsy prose at the sentence level, are sometimes extremely engaging storytellers in ways that transcend their technical deficiencies. “Project: Hail Mary” is a story about a lonely astronaut who undertakes a one-way mission into deep space to do a science thing that is the only hope to save the world, and when he gets there, he encounters an alien bug who is also a lonely astronaut on the same kind of mission, and they become best friends and work together to do their science thing and find a way to get back home. It is utterly charming, and everybody knows it. All these dunks are meaningless.

Driving me slightly insane that everyone has to pretend that Andy Weir is a real novelist and not a guy whose books are like 70% math equations

@Some_Pixy @MaverickCreator @snacks_fruity2 RPD was not the Care Center and some of the ones in RPD, at least in Outbreak, were made so you could get larger pieces in or out. It's what you open in the RPD level to have the one cop sneak out to get help, but still weird to have it be some complicated

@desperados159 @SnowbreakEN Unfortunately they might not have much choice in the matter. I feel for the devs, they almost certainly don’t want to do any of this.

@SnowbreakEN Please, seeing that I am losing hope in BD2, please do not let your game walk that same path. You might not be a big juggernaut, but you are a place of comfort and relaxation for a lot of us. Rooting for you.

@PlayHighguard 2 million people trying the game should put the people crying about how toxicity killed the game to bed: if 2 million people tried your game and quit, that’s not toxicity. That’s a game issue.

Reports say he had been ticcing all through the night. At multiple people, not just Jordan and Lindo. At his team and at others. Misogynistic slurs, racist slurs, other slurs. The nature of the disorder is that your brain forces you to blurt out things it has registered as taboos in given social contexts. Involuntarily. If an apology is to be insisted upon, then he shouldn’t just apologise to Jordan and Lindo; he should apologise to every single person he ticced at that night, whether theirs was televised or not. To ask him to specifically apologise to Jordan and Lindo is to say that he is to apologise for theirs being publicised or amplified, not for the utterance itself. But is it his fault that his tics were televised? Or is it the fault of the media platform that chose to air it, especially without giving appropriate medical context? If he ticced at five people that night, he would need to apologise to five people. If he ticced at twenty, apologise to twenty. Fifty? Eighty? Hundred? How many people can he realistically apologise to for something completely out of his control? How long is he going to spend his life apologising? At what point does it move from apologising for harm to apologising for having a disability?
Uju Anya@UjuAnya

John Davidson’s apology was inadequate, because he didn’t acknowledge the harm his tic caused Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan, which—of course—was not his fault. His “sorry” wouldn’t have been for culpability or ill intent, but to show empathy for the Black people he harmed.

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma Why should he apologize? As you so adroitly pointed out, saying that an apology is “just words.” So, aren’t the things he says also “just words?” Unless you’re allowed to be treated with dignity and he is not. But that would be hypocrisy, of course, and you wouldn’t do that…

@Seitosa @BARFJAMiN @ulxma Listen, you can type all you want. I understand his disability. I understand that he might have to apologize 1 million times a day. He should still do it when he says offensive things.

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma You still haven’t said how many times he should reasonably be expected to apologize in a day. Once? Ten times? A hundred? When is enough enough?

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma It’s about not having to apologize for fucking existing. It’s about being an adult and realizing that intent matters. It’s about not taking offense when a disabled person inconveniences you with their disability.

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma Yes. The n-word is a charged word with a long and hurtful history. But you cannot reasonably expect him to prostrate himself every time he says something offensive when he literally cannot avoid doing that. He says a great many offensive things *all the time.*

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma Because he shouldn’t have to apologize hundreds or more times a day every day for his whole life! It’s not about one word. He says offensive shit to people all the time. He tells women with cancer that they’re going to die. That’s pretty offensive.

@pythonoragamy @BARFJAMiN @ulxma That’s not the point! How many times should he have to apologize in a day? Every day, for his whole life? His life shouldn’t have to be a constant series of apologies for something he has zero control over. It’s not about one apology. It’s not about one word.

@Unique_ident @ulxma @judeinlondon For that tic, sure. What about the next one, or the next dozen, or however many times a day he says something that “needs” to be apologized for? It’s not reasonable or fair or just to expect him to spend his life apologizing for things beyond his control.
