#PortraitThursday - Marble portrait of an elderly man wearing a hat with a large circular brim. This artwork illustrates the Roman tradition of verism, a style that emphasises realistic and often unflattering features. The sagging skin under the eyes, pronounced cheekbones, and fleshy nose contribute to the figure's lifelike presence. The eyes are carved without pupils, which is a typical characteristic of earlier Roman styles, giving the portrait a blank yet intense gaze. Some scholars consider it a Hellenistic Greek work of the late 3rd or early 2nd century BC; others consider it a late Republican Roman work of the 1st century BC. From the Torlonia Collection.

You get to a level where this becomes a norm and nobody is even talking about it. Harry Kane’s standards are out of this world.

I'm a firm believer that, to understand Italy, you have to turn it 50 degrees clockwise.

@phl43 1- Apparently they're using it for actual events, i.e. bringing it back to its intended use (like many similar places in, say, southern France) 2- The actual material seems original Given this, honestly I'm OK with it

@miniapeur In air, a heavier stone will fall faster (because the force from air resistance is speed-dependent). They will only fall at the same speed in a vacuum... but Aristotle did not believe in vacuum!
