As many have correctly pointed out, the protest being referenced has been widely mischaracterized. The only arrests reported were from the pro-Shah and pro-Israel side, not from the anti-war demonstrators implicitly being smeared. That matters. Because when influential figures amplify distorted accounts, they help turn misinformation into perceived fact. Equally troubling is the attempt to weaponize hate-crime statistics to dismiss concerns about Islamophobia. It is unquestionably true that Jews are targeted in far too many hate crimes in Canada, and that reality must be acknowledged and confronted without equivocation. But it is also well known among researchers, community organizations, and law enforcement experts that many attacks on Muslims and other minorities go unreported. The reasons are varied and documented: fear of retaliation, distrust of authorities, immigration or employment vulnerability, normalization of harassment, language barriers, and a widespread belief that reporting will not result in accountability. Using one community’s victimization to invalidate another’s lived experience is not truth-seeking. It is selective framing. If “community notes” are meant to correct misinformation, they should not become a mechanism for laundering new distortions under the guise of crowdsourced credibility. Public figures — especially those with the platform and influence of a major Canadian tech CEO — should exercise greater care before amplifying narratives that stigmatize communities or misrepresent events. Canada deserves better.

Agree with you, Mitch. This feels obvious if you actually listen to Iranians. For decades the regime jailed, tortured, and killed its own people. Women beaten for showing their hair. Protesters executed. When you see Iranians celebrating in the streets and across the diaspora, that tells you something real about this moment. War is tragic. Civilian deaths are tragic. But the fall of a brutal regime that terrorized its own people is a step toward something better.

We are several days into one of the most important geo- political operations in recent times, which happens to also react to and revenge the slaughter of 30-40,000 protesters, many of them women who have suffered most under one of the most repressive regimes of the last 50 years. A regime responsible for being the largest exporter of islamic extremist terror in the world. The women of Iran are dancing in the streets in defiance. The Ayatollah and most of the regime leadership have been killed. And no Toula , the source of the school bombing is not yet known. And if in fact it was the Israeli's or the Americans, it would be a real stretch to call it a war crime unless it was intentional. It is tragic, that is what we do know. And for you the main story is whether a teacher in Quebec can wear a hijab, when women in Iran have been and may continue to be murdered for removing theirs. Read the room.
